Uh, they're not "better". It depends what you want from the drive.smids said:And buy the Hitachi 7K1000, Seagate 7200.10 or WD AAKS over the Samsung. All are better.
Jaffa_Cake said:The £66 you save by not buying the E6700 then you can afford one of these monsters http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-002-NC it will allow you to overclock very high without getting too hot![]()
Awesome monitor. I suggest the 640MB 8800GS for it, though, and am sure that Jaffa Cake will agree.Topper said:Thanks for the replys guys. I'll have a look at all these options. I'm thinking about a new monitor as well. Probably the samsung bw226.![]()
WD's are as quiet as the Samsungs if that's the point you wish to make and they are faster than the samsungs - by a fair distance. What, you want a slower disk procured on parallel recording tech? They are seemingly less reliable also - not scientifically, but on user averagaes.masslac said:Uh, they're not "better". It depends what you want from the drive.
Care to cite your sources?smids said:WD's are as quiet as the Samsungs if that's the point you wish to make and they are faster than the samsungs - by a fair distance. So how exactly are they not 'better'?

A thread I ran in the HDU forum. Now, what needs to be said is that you must exclude IBM from the survey, they had two models of HDU which were known to be faulty and which caused a LOT of failures (manufacturing design fault).
Then, simply take length of time they have been in the business into account. Whilst Seagate (yes, we all know about Maxtors over the last few years) appears to be one of the front runners, they are indeed the oldest manufacturer (inventing the desktop hard drive).
Samsung might not seem to have that high a number, but when the user base is considered (relatively low) coupled with age of the company in the industry, this would appear to clarify the picture.
On performance, I don't need any sources. Perpendicular tech drives are about 10MB/s faster sustained than parallel tech drives of the same spindle speed. Samsungs are known for slower seeks (which can be blamed on the acoustic management). And if you really need a quiet PC, buy a HD enclosure.
