Buying single dumbells

maybe try ebay and gum tree loads of people must have bought weights around christmas and then done nothing with them and sell them on after realising it was a waste of money
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9017362.htm

is prob about the cheapest you will get unless you want vinyl plates full of sand or whatever they use these days.
I'd get some proper iron ones though.

even if you bought just 4x5kg iron plates it's almost the same as a 20kg dumbbell set costs
cheapest for just the plates right now is probably tesco

oh wait nearly all of them are out of stock lol.... what a waste of my time that was.

I can't be bothered to look elsewhere but at least you know what you need if you don't want to buy a "set"

curious as to why you need/want singles?

you couldn't bench with singles for example, of course you could do curls, and stuff, but then your missing out a lot of exercises that could be done with pairs.

second hand if you want individuals cheap are your best bet, but then again i don't think anyone would want to sell singles, it would leave them with half a set they couldn't sell on, so you would probably need to buy both.

after that it's ironmasters tbh.

could always go spinlock or olympic dumbells as well but the faffing about put me off mine.

Could you link me to where you bought your ironmasters and the exact ones you have? I understand there's addon kits?

There is only one Uk supplier valley fitness and yes there is a add-on kit for £250 which takes them from 34kg to 54kg. Also delivery is quite expensive, I paid £30 delivery for the dumbbells.

I highly recommend them, only had mine 2 weeks but very happy with them. You can change the weights really quickly, no wobbles etc.

One of the features I like the most is the collar is big and flat on the ends, so you can rest it on your thigh and roll back with them.

The only bad reviews I could find were years ago about the weight being slightly unbalanced, but I don't think that's an issue anymore. I did a quick check on my scales and they seemed good.

i don't have ironmasters, i have an actual full set of individual dumbells all the way from 2.5kg up to 45kg, which retails for many thousands of pounds.

ironmasters on the other hand do the same job just as well for less than half the price.

i bought all mine second hand, otherwise i would have never had the cash for a full set brand new.

had i not got them for such a good price, i would have bought ironmasters.

This plus Olympic plates: http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/olympic_bars/bodypower_olympic_dumbbell_handle_x1/3208_p.html

Otherwise look here: http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/

No point buying the argos/tesco stuff, you'll out grow it instantly.

i have those handles, and imo they are literally crap compared to ironmasters or a proper set of dumbells.

so much fiddling about and you really need to buy a decent clamp when you get to anything above say 20kg per dumbell.

i would never recommend them to anybody they are that bad. mine have been used a couple of times, they arent worth selling on tbh because of postage costs, etc as well, so they will sit there until i sell them for scrap most likely.

Some people don't have the space for a full rack of DB's, it's not that hard to understand. And when you already have the Barbell plates you may as well utilise them even further. And LOL at fiddling about...'Remove collar, put plate on, put collar back on' :D

In an ideal world, yes, everyone would have a rack of DB's ranging from 6kg to 50kg+

then they buy ironmasters ;)

Here you go again with your 'must spend a million pounds on a treadmill to have the desired effect'.

They lift weight and cost approx 200+$ cheaper than ironmasters.

Also:
I don't really have a budget but I'd rather not payout a shed load atm for something like ironmasters etc etc.

He can't afford iron masters.

he said he would rather not, but imo he would be better off by doing so now rather than later, saving himself money.

you know nothing about treadmills or gym equipment, so you do not know what is decent stuff.

i have olympic dumbell handles and they were terrible to use in comparison to proper dumbells.

i used a £5000+ treadmill at the gym and in comparison a £1600 one is also terrible to use but bearable.

also dumbell handles ain't exactly cheap either, the olympic ones anyway, then add on the cost of a bulldog clamp and your talking £150, then add in the fact most people do not have enough 5kg and 2.5kg plates to use as dumbell's your talking easily £250 for a proper set of olympic dumbells.

would it not be better to spend the extra few quid on top and get ironmasters?

that order is for 2 x handles, 2 sets of collars, 1 set of 1.25 kg's, 1 set of 2.5kg's and 3 sets of 5kg's

now do you see why ironmasters are a much better option? he would be saving himself £200-£250 and yet have to faff about all the time, and if he gets fed up of faffing about, he would have wasted the same amount of money, £250 down the drain.

answer this - have you ever used olympic dumbells and individual ones? if you have then you would know why ironmasters or individuals are a much better option, they are so much easier to use.
