I need to buy a pair of sofas. Are the sales after christmas actually worth waiting for? Or are they like any other sale that these shops tend to have on all year round?!

Also, any shops you'd recommend looking at/avoiding?

It took us long enough to buy a bed, so buying a sofa is going to be an absolute nightmare so we need all the help we can get!!

Cheers.

Sometimes its worth the wait. Depends if you need them urgent.

When i got mines back in 2006, bought them from DFS on 50% Sale, had to wait bloody 13 weeks for delivery. Still going strong :)

I don't need them urgently. I'm quite happy to wait until the xmas sales. But if the sales are no good then we might as well buy them now as we have the money.

Between now and then there will of course be the late Autumn sales, the Halloween sales, and the early December pre-Christmas sale.

Plenty of time!

What's your budget?

Have you looked online?

Many of the retailers have sales on at the moment. My opinion is that you're just as likely to find a good deal now as waiting until the Xmas sales. A sale is a sale, and they happen all year round.

The only items that the furniture shops put in their sales are their 'Seasonal' collections. These are the ones they design following trends for that particular season and then they need to sell them to make way for more new products.

The most popular sofas, the ones which people tend to buy are their staple products and so are never in the sales.

So really it depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for something fairly normal, then chances are it might never be in a sale.

For example, I bought a Leather Corner sofa from DFS which is great, but as it's so popular, it's never in the sales.

Check out smaller independent shops as you'll get much more for your money (better quality). I try to avoid all big chain stores when buying any furniture (in this case DFS/SCS).

Also don't be conned into buying extra cover for your new purchase, as from experience, it's a complete waste of time. The salesman makes commission on this extra cover, so he/she will do their best to try flog you it, no matter what.

Not sure what the budget is really. I want it to be as cheap as possible without looking or feeling cheap! As you can tell, I haven't put much thought into it yet!

I've not looked online or in store at anything at all yet. As I said I was just going to wait til xmas and start looking then.
