Hi guys,
Long story short, had a slightly burning smell from my PC while gaming recently, and I thought it was my newish GTX 570 burning off the "factory fresh" smell.
Recently it's gotten quite bad and I've investigated tonight, stressing out the GPU until my room stank! I was so sure it was the GPU I warmed it up to pull it out and give it a sniff test just after it turned off to find SHOCK HORROR! The smell is coming from my PSU!
It's a non-modular Cooler Master PSU which I got from ebay a couple of years ago and have been very reliable so far. But this means it has to go ASAP! (and looks like I need to dust off my XBox for some gaming
)
I was looking at this, but it's currently out of stock: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-215-CM&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1103
Of course the efficiency isn't most important, but I do believe in being green where possible (where running a Fermi allows
), so I would prefer a gold rated supply. Is there anything that is known to be as silent though? I've read some reviews of the Silent Pro Gold series and they've come out quite good! I want around 600 watt as I don't ever run SLI.
What would you all recommend? Not so specced up on PSUs!! Thanks!
