Wanting a small upgrade to my 30D, mainly live view and more MP.

Should I be looking at the 50D or is there anything else around the £250~ mark I should consider?

I've found I rely on the top screen of the 30D quite a bit, so I'd probably struggle with something that doesn't have it :(

Can't believe a 50D is still commanding £250. I have a 40D which I no longer use but which doesn't appear to be worth much more than £100 so not worth selling.

I've seen the 7D going for around the £350 mark lately so £250 strikes me as too much for a 50D.

I went from the 30D to the 50D and wished I hadn't, It just didn't live up to my expectations.

I'd save up a bit longer and get a 2nd hand 7D :)

Looking around, it seems you should be able to get a 60D for around £250 which sounds more reasonable and a more significant upgrade from a 30D. I'd either see if you can snoop out one of those or, if you can raise the budget a little, a 7D.

Can you get 700D for £250 ! ?:(

Just had a quick scan, probably can used. New the best price is around £320 (with the cashback deal). Personally I think the 100D is a better buy for £249 with cashback unless you really need that articulating screen.

I think it's due to the better build quality vs the 60D. I certainly wouldn't pay £250 for one.

Canon made a weird change for the 60d making it a slightly worse build but I'd still rather one over the 50d if I was the op the 50d offers very little over the 30d and next to nothing over the 40d which could be had for around £100

Fair enough, I'm now looking at the 100D and 700D.

From what I can tell the only difference between the two is the size, and the flip out screen?

Also, the 650D looks the same as the 700D? Is the 700D just a rebrand?

Does this apply to the 100D too?

The creative filters? Yeah. It's slightly different through compared to the 650/700D. The phase detection AF points cover more of the frame and it has a slightly bigger viewfinder (in a smaller body?!). It loses 1fps vs the bigger bodies though, and it's built in flash isn't as powerful. It also uses a smaller battery.

Went from a 40D to a 50D when the shutter failed on the 40. Same camera basically, slightly more resolving power, same high ISO performance overall, but with microfocus adjustment, which I consider a must on a DSLR.

Burst speed is the big draw of the 40/50D compared to the consumer bodies. If you don't need fast bursting and MF adjustment then the 100D will do pretty much everything you need in a much smaller package.

I'd avoid the 60D personally, durability took a step backwards and Canon removed several features, including MF adjustment.

70D is your best friend, I'd say it's the sweet spot in terms of performance and value.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I managed to get a good deal on a used 650D which looks like it should be a decent upgrade to my 30D. The 70D was out of my budget unfortunately!
