Buying washing products for new car

For my Cosmic CTR I thought i'd splash out on some half decent cleaning products. Been reading about Meguiar's stuff and think most people are saying it's pretty much the best stuff at the moment. So here's the plan

Wash Car With
Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner 473ml
&
Meguiars Super Thick Microfibre Wash Mitt

Dry Car After Wash With
Meguiars Supreme Shine Microfibre Cloth

Remove debris attached to paintwork with
Meguiar's Quik Clay Detailing System

This raises some questions about claybar's. Should they be used after each wash i.e. weekly or is that too frequently? Should they be used only on the problem areas or are safe for all over the car?

Wax & Polish with
Meguiar's Quik Wax

Is this putting all of the above effort to waste? Should i go for a longer polish then wax system?

Ahh I see :D , never used a claybar before so I take it they are 1 shot only then throw away. Or as i have read some people use a part of the whole bar and store the other part for later use sealed in clling film or something similar..
 
Gold class is ok, hyperwash is my choice now though as although its £22 or so a US gallon its 400-1 dilution. Which means 1 us gallon of the stuff is good for around 200ish car washes :)

I'd personally not use the quik wax. When you get it i'd consider either claying it and using dc#1, dc#2 and then NXT tech wax. If you can't be arsed with this then try the meguiars cleaner wax or the gold class liquid wax. Gold class isn't bad and its what I used to use before moving over to poorboys natty's blue.

Also wash using the 2 bucket method- i.e. one bucket detergent, one clean water- rinse the mitt in the clean after each pass.
 
Autoglym shampoo, Autoglym polish (fantastic on dark colours), Zymol Wax (smells awesome :)) all work well for me. Might replace the Autoglym shampoo with Zymol stuff though.

For the interior Autoglym interior shampoo works wonders on plastics, metals and carpets. Doesn't leave a horrible silicone shine or smells.

For leather, Autoglym leather cleaner and Autoglym conditioner work very well.

For glass, Autoglym glass cleaner.

For the wheels, I got some BMW stuff which seems to work ok. Looking for new recommendations.

For the tyres Autoglym tyre gloss is the best stuff - doesn't leave an oily residue on the wheels like other tyre shine does.
 
Fairy liquid and warm water does the trick for me. I will polish it one day, maybe... :o

Wheels are awkward to clean, though.

That'll strip any wax etc off the car and leave salt etc behind....might look ok now but give it enough time...

True. It's great for getting oil off driveways though :D
 
Just to echo the above ^^

Fairy liquid is full of nasty salts and chemicals which isnt doing your paint work any favours at all!
 
I use Auto Glim to polish(may be spelled differently) Its £10 a bottle but afterward you see why it's so dear , it wipes the floor with T-Cut or anything else i've ever used . A little tip here, remember this one. To wash your alloy wheels and keep them from getting dirty and corroded use Soda Crystals in a squirty bottle(you can buy from most supermarkets) I read this in a Veedub magazine and have used them ever since, kept my deep dish Strosek wheels in mint condition, I really haven't seen anthing bring alloy wheels up cleaner its amazing.

If applying the polish by hand you cant go wrong with Autoglym Super Resin Polish then followed up with a coat or 2 of wax. The Autoglym SRP is a truly great product, easy to apply by hand. Contains fillers so will cover up the majority of swirls in your paint and leaving a fab finish afterwards. Always apply a wax after you've used polish to protect it, enhance the finish and for longevity. As above, get to the detailing world forums, theyre great!
 
Thanks for the input guys, think i will leave Claybar'ing until it's much more dirty than it is now, probably in a few months time.

In the end I went for:

NXT Car Wash
NXT Tech Wax
Luxurious Lambs Wool Wash Mitt
Water Magnet Drying Towel
&
Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover

Think that should cover the regular washes, the NXT stuff is expensive but it may cover some of the marks as it has some filling properties. The wool mitt is pretty much essential as sponges just scratch and make more marks in the clearcoat. The drying towel should also prevent scratches and dry the car quickly. The bug remover is I think also fairly essential as the CTR eats bugs daily. :D
