Buzzing from speakers

I’ve recently noticed a buzzing from my speakers when using my PC

Happens when I start a game mainly but noticed it did it yesterday when moving around on google maps

Any ideas?

Using analogue out from motherboard? Try using a DAC inbetween motherboard and speakers. Insides of PC are noisy.

I use optical out from a dedicated soundcard, there is zero squeeling, hiss or buzzing from the speakers.

Strange. Try another source, if you get noise from other HDMI or analogue sources then not the PC.

Sometimes if speaker or analogue cables near power cables you can get hum.

Maybe try optical HDMI cables

Edit: doesn't look like Overclockers stock them maybe they could get some in...

As others have suggested, almost sounds like a shielding issue (power) cables being close to speakers or cable, but I've never heard or seen this before with HDMI.

If you could hear it when moving around google maps, it could possibly be a power supply issue. I would suggest trying the following
- Isolate the PC on power (if using a gangway/extension try and remove other devices)
- Check positioning of your monitor and the cabling, if possible try and put space between the HDMI and power cables.

I've been using Displayport for a long time and it's been a long time since i've had this sort of issue. But I do remember seeing similar issues where causing the PC to be active (even moving windows around screen) would generate a slight hum.

Would be good to know if you've made any recent changes to anything.

I'll be honest, this is a new one on me

Have tried unplugging my HDMI and moving my mouse around in the area where I knew google maps was or when a game was starting up, and I heard the same noise without the HDMI plugged in.
Tried unplugging all other cables (except for power and ethernet) and still hear buzzing

Seems like its something coming from the PC and interfering with the speaker but not sure what or how its happening

Yeah, had some issues over Christmas and installed new CPU, motherboard and PSU

any kind of buzzing when you switched over, or did it just start one day, i'd unplug the audio and run a small load to see if you have any other sounds that still happen if they do the motherboard or psu could be causing problems, its just a process of elimination

Are your cables shielded type? I use shielded cables which in my experience reduce em noises like buzzing etc

Hit and miss but Ferrite Cores/Chokes sometimes help.

I've got a crucial ssd with a noisy cap or similar inside, only notice when doing certain things.

Optical HDMI would have been to isolate the AMP from the source of the interference so I would have put one between the PC and the amp, and possibly another between your PS5 and the Amp, its not impossible the monitors HDMI cable was feeding it back into the amp but it would be less likely imo.

There are also cheap RCA ground loop isolators which would go between any analog source and the amp.

"I heard the same noise without the HDMI plugged in"
Optical HDMI wouldn't stop the noise from the PC but it might stop the amplifier making it worse; there are a lot of wires with a 5.1 system and not all amps are earthed / shielded so theres no guarantee it would stop it completly.

Its probably either the PSU or power circuit on the Mobo or a combination of the two which won't be easy to fault find even if you RMA say the PSU they might not find a fault in the same way people complain about coil whine on GPU's.

Do you still have the PSU, if you think it was dying then I wouldn't want to risk using it otherwise you could try it instead of the new one and see if you still have the same problem.

If you list what PSU the new one is then I'm sure someone will come along and say whether its considered a good model / brand or one thats poorly thought of but even good models can have the odd bad apple...

You haven't re positioned anything, used a different extension lead etc?
i.e. I know if I leave my mobile too close to the PC / speakers every now and again the amp will pick up interference from it.
