buzzing GTX980 Infin8 Black Edition card?

If it still whines, your going to be informed the Corsair psu's are cheapo psu's and don't classify as a proper psu despite Corsair/OcUK selling them as rated psu's.:p

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18647491

Also read that OcUK pay for the return postage if the coil whine is at fault(don't know where unfortunately), but the likelihood of them testing on anything under a 1000W Superflower are remote.

Yea what he is saying is the CX range from Corsair (same as the one i'm trying to use) are the budget PSU range which is correct (that's why my mate picked it unfortunately). So now i've gone the other way of the scale and gone for their premium range.. no one is going to convince me the AX760 is a cheap ass, low quality PSU in a million years and If it fails this, then it is the card 100%.

And if it is the card, I will not be swapping it for another....

They don't have to convince you that it's cheapo quality, they'll just make a stance, good luck and hope it works out though.:)

Good choice, I had one of them, if it still screams, instead of using a single double headed pci-e cable, split the load over two cables like so:

Could even try it on current gpu, you never know.

Hi mate, The silverstone seems okay.. so if I got that 750w Silverstone one and the card still buzzing like a chainsaw than its gotta be the card?

What i'm asking is would OcUK be more satisfied if I used that PSU rather than this much cheaper Corsair one?

You should not buy a PSU yet!
Though the Corsair CX range are pretty poor, changing PSU may not resolve this. It could just be a very bad card.

Send the card back instead of potentially spending £100 which might not change anything.

No do not buy another Corsair, none of them are as good as Seasonic or Superflower.

Hi Gibbo,

To be honest i dont mind buying another PSU.. i wasn't too happy buying the CX in the first place.. and when I was fitting it, it felt cheap which worried me more. Ill feel better knowing my mate has a decent Seasonic in there instead and if its the Card at fault then ill just use the CX for something less demanding. And this way we should know for sure before having to return.. if it still noisy ill give you guys a call...

Cheers Gibbo.

Ok well put in the new Seasonic and well made little to no difference which was to be expected. But I gave it to my mate to try anyway and turned out he doesn't care about the buzzing anyway.. lol. in fact his exact words were "my Playstation 3 made louder, stranger noise than for years", Each to their own I suppose..but I assume that by keeping the card with the coil whine it does not effect the warranty in any way? Just in case :)

Cheers everyone.

Too bad I just came across your thread right now and not a couple of days earlier, since I've had exactly the same problem with buzzing Infin8 970's.

Can confirm swapping PSU's does indeed not fix it, I've tried it with a Seasonic M12II EVO 620 and EVGA G2 750 (if you happen to be interested in details see http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=27850310), so now you know even more for sure it's the 970

Anyways, I am happy for you that you could resolve the issue by handing it over to your mate ;)

lol, yea well happy to be handing that over.. if it was mine I certainly would not be accepting it and would be throwing the thing back to OcUK as we speak.. but at least he now has a much more respectable PSU in there now rather than that nasty Corsair CX thingy :)

Thought I'd chime in...

my infin8 970 whines for a bout 30-60 seconds then is silent when loading up a game. Which I don't mind at all, as its about 500x better than my old 570 which sounded like a cat being strangled.

Using a silverstong sg450w (80% gold) small formfactor psu.

Some people do not notice it, VGA cards for last few years can be heard due to how fast they have got.

The 970 due to volumes sold has just highlighted the issue more. But in all my testing the best card we sell so far for having best chance of not suffering is the OcUK NVIDIA reference 970.

My conclusion is the cooler helps reduce it a lot also and because the NVIDIA genuine cooler applies pressure on everything and has thermal/acoustic pads this helps stop the vibrations. :)

All cards whine I find when they first power up into 3D, certainly my findings as I know the exact noise to listen for but many after a minute calm down.

A way to look at it is a cars engine is noisy at cold startup and well inductors are the same, once warm most get quieter. :)

Good good! That's what I figured (and haven't made a fuss about sending it back)

It's so nice not hearing it during games though.
