C&C demo now on MP!!!

The controls are very smooth but doing anything other than massing tanks is very tricky. Luckily that's all you need to do in C&C :)

My view, coming from an ex C&C multiplayer whore.

It's nothing new, nothing special, doesn't look amazing, it seems very limited, the units are un-inspiring, the structures are un-inspiring, it feels as if the game has been so held back to try and cater for a controller, even though it hasn't, since the PC version is the exact same game.

A true RTS will never work on a controller, and although they gave it a good try, it still doesn't work.

The cut scenes were typical over the top C&C and it hasn't lost that sense of things, this is worth a purchase for £15-£20 in the sale.

The demo hasn't convinced me it's £40s worth of game, it's a miss for me, it's not true C&C.

Agree with him, not different enough from previous command and conquer games. Assuming the PC game is the same apart from achievements it would be much better. Not played this LOTR game but the control is no way near a replacement for keyboard and mouse. Picking and assigning groups is fiddly.

I am fairly certain i noticed some slowdown on the second map as well :(

C&C was never a true RTS game as it lacked strategy. It always made up for this in style and charisma but it was never a serious multiplayer strategy game. The controls work fine for C&C but would not suite anything remotely strategic. Nothing will come close to a mouse on the 360 but this is acceptable for me for a bit of fun :)

Edit: Groups is the best bit for me. You only ever need to fiddle with the up or down directions on the dpad unless you screw up a group (very hard to do) and without such simple and effective group management (that and the select all feature) the game would be a disaster like all previous RTS games on consoles.

Edit2:

There is a lot of slowdown on multiplayer etc when you have a decent sized army :(

I found the system of picking your units, then pressing down on the dpad to cycle to the nearest available group number quite a good system.
I agree. Jelly for thumbs tbh ;)

I only ever had an issue when I accidently assigned a war factory and when spamming units to destinations I kept changing my rally point.

Finally got my hands in last night with online play - I musta sat playing for about 7 hours - And I won every single game that I played - problem is there was a hell of a lot of people just disconnecting because they think ZOMG - im gonna loose :(

It's etiquette in StarCraft to say gg and quit when you know you have lost. Where's the point continuing if there is zero chance? People keep leaving my games but I'd rather have that than have to destroy every bulding.

I just cant get on with the pad. I like the game but find doing anything takes twice the time it would with a KB and M. I would love one of these to work on a console but I think I will get the pc version.

Didn't like it, I think they have done the best they can with the controls, but I hate games where you have to remember multiple combinations of buttons just to do a simple task.

Definitely a genre suited to mouse and keyboard.

Yeah i found selecting just one bunch of tanks on one bit of the map too hard. I kept having them move from where ever they where on the map. Finding just one unit type got to be a pain. Sometimes it was just trial and error.

Same as high end RTS play though. Knowing the hotkeys is the key to winning in decent well balanced RTS games.

Doesn't make it much fun for someone like me who is quite casual towards this type of genre though, I simple find it too fiddly and have to keep thinking before I want to do anything in order to remember what does what.

If you guys enjoy the game then endure the control system, because after playing LOTR: BFME II a lot, the control system seems pretty natural to me...

RB + double tap A on a unit will select that unit type across the map and RB + A will select all one unit on the screen.

It may not be as graceful as a KB/M set up but it works well enough to enjoy the game once you have got the hang of it!

Cool I will try those methods later to see if it improves my gameplay. Thanks :)
