C & C Generals

I played for hours on those two games there was going to be a sequel at one bit but that disapeared.

I remember when they pulled support, the game was thriving at the time and much of it came across as EA being afraid the game had been so successful nobody gave a rats about the next title in the franchise (attitude carried across to many of their ips at the time)

Shame really, not to say cnc3/kw or ra3/uprising were bad, to the contrary
They just didn't grasp me as much as the earlier titles had done..

CNC4 on the other hand, so awful I'm suprised ea have not tried to utilise the "right to be forgotten" for it, not that the average gamer acknowledges it anyway :P

Generals was a monumental clanger though, especially with the rise of Esports... by right it belonged up there with the likes of star craft

I think generals was an accidental gem for EA, they had absolutely no clue just how good it was and ultumately let the game go to waste.

It's sad really because I feel like it only needed 1 or 2 more patches to make it feel really polished. Unfortunately though they left 2 massive bugs in it and there were some balance issues that needed addressing. If you were playing to win most of the commanders were useless.

Its all about zero hour. Remember many many hours of lan parties well into the morning hours when I was younger round free houses. Although what was the terrorist faction called? Remeber if you went and stole a players tractor thing then you could immediately build that factions base and complete it with your own tractors, not needing to get the stolen one back to your base.

10 year old thread resurrection!

I'm not much of a PC gamer however used to love this back in the day so recently bought it in the steam sale for peanuts. I'm self employed, working form home mostly and like to take a break now and then by jumping into a skirmish against bots. I've seen a few vids on youtube of players against 7 x hard armies using some kind of custom maps that have lots of resources and narrow choke points to each base, meaning they just build up massive base defences then overwhelm them with super weapons which looks cool.
I've had a look online to download some but seems there's a mountain of options and I'm too much of a noob to figure out what is legit and what isn't. It's my own laptop (legion pro) that I use to make a living so don't want to DL anything that will compromise it and put me out of action until I take it to someone to fix!

Anyone still play this and can tell me where to get the maps?

Appreciated :)

EDIT - also seen it mentioned above of patching to get a higher resolution. I feel I can't zoom out far enough. I'm hoping my pc spec can handle it given how smooth it runs as its.

Loads of maps on there, including the ones with infinite resources. You can filter the maps by player number and use advanced filters to show 'money maps'
Some maps are absolutely awesome with oil pumps and artillery stations you can take over to help generate money and have an extra line of defense etc

Zero Hour is still my favorite C&C game. I also have it on my laptop so if I get bored at work I have a blast
Zero Hour and Kanes Wrath... Both are excellent and very different from each other. I'm over 1000 hours and still never played through the campaigns. I just love building massive bases with huge fortifications and then steamrolling the enemy
