Hi,
I'm looking for some feedback on these 2 photos, which I took yesterday in the little sun we did have. I forgot to change the ISO from the night before so they were taken @ ISO 1600, still there is not much noise considering.

I was thinking of putting these into a comp so could you also indicate which one you think is best.
Cheers

I prefer the first one, well the colours of it, the blacks seem more black and the white seems more white to me.

#1
Too many areas of distraction to the left, right and below the subject. The soily textures to the right of the flower gives a nice natural feel to the shot however this is not complemented on the other side therefore the shot's balance is thrown off. Of the two, this has the better contrast and vibrancy however the shadows at the front of the flower's petals are also quite distracting. Composition could be improved by adding a little more height to the frame

#2
I prefer the angle of this to #1, again I feel that the the composition of the shot could be improved slightly by having more height in the frame. This one looks slightly underexposed and shadows are notabel in the petals. The wooden item in the top left of the frame is distracting.

Both shots could be improved IMO by giving the contrast and colours a slight boost as they look slightly washed out as they are. I hope you don't mind but I had a quick play in photoshop with #1 to try and make your subject a little more punchy

By all means have a play, TBH I was going to replace the backgrounds with black - I'm not sure why I didn't as your right they look much better with out them. I've never done close up/macro work before so every step is a learning curve.

I did take about 40-50 photos most with the rule of 1/3 in mind so I'll see if I have any that are closer to what you've described.
