C&C Red Alert 3 Trailer

Just installed yuri's for a few games with some pals. With new mouse speeds and screen resolutions this game is just off the chain.

Well RA is 12 years old now, that's a long time for a computer games.

Indeed, in fact in the past I've commented that around Y2K is the cutoff point for me, beyond which games seem to decline rapidly in terms of the negative effect the visuals/interface have on gameplay. I was just mentioning it because some people still big up RA a lot and personally I think all the Westwood titles before TibSun are pretty much 'unplayable' in the modern era - although some may disagree.

I disagree. Its things like poor unit AI, lack of queuing and other similar issues rather than the graphics that are a problem. I'm still playing an old RTS\RPG hybrid simply because the gameplay rocks (despite the graphics being pretty much 2D, and marginally better than Red Alert's). :)

It looks rubbish and unrealistic. The original Red Alert was my favourite because it was believable.

StarCrafts fan base disagrees with you :)

Red Alert 1 is my favourite C&C, though I would admit to this being partly due to looking through rose-tinted glasses. Yes the graphics have aged and the strategy boiled down to building a screen full of tanks faster than your opponent and steamrollering him- but then when I look at RA2, C&C3 and now RA3, the graphics have now become cartoon-y, almost kitsch, and in the end (for RA2 and C&C3 at least) the 'strategy' still boils down to building a bigger army than the other side and steamrollering across the map.

I do load up RA1 and TibSun (the last good C&C game IMO) now and then for nostalgia and it serves to remind me that though the graphics have had a spit and polish, the game really hasn't evolved much and in fact has lost a lot of the shine and the spirit of it's predecessors.

All my 0.02p of course.

looks like the resource system is going to be something similar to in generals which should stop economy booming by spamming hundreds of harvesters and hopefully slow the gameplay down :)

I kind of agree, the game was amazing at it's time, but after years of playing other games, it does make it kind of unplayable. It still stays in my top 5 though.

I hope not, Generals promoted "turtling", even more than previous C&C titles. External resources adds better tactics to the game.

Looks like RA2, sounds like RA2. I can not wait for this. RA2 was my first addiction to online gaming. I played it for nearly 5 years. The lobbies and matchmaking were also awesome for the time of release.

I also relish the more simpleness of video. My main problem about Generals was that the game was too "populated" with scenery and such. While it made the single player game more interesting. I never found the multiplayer fun at all. I actually ended up going back to RA2 as it was so much more fun to play. Also nice too see land, sea and air are all there!

"Watch out for da bomb!"

Liking the look of the trailer, although I haven't played any of the red alerts before. Infact Generals was the 1st one I played. Why doesn't anyone like it??? That latest one, Tiberium Wars was quite fun, hope to get the expansion pack after my exams...

I agree, it started to get a bit far fetched with killer quids and dolphins! They have to keep the ideas fresh i suppose or no one will buy it!
