C&C4 Requires 'Always On' Internet Connection

Out of interest, why? Don't you have broadband? Or are you just going to boycott a potentially good game just because they're forcing you to use your connection?

I only really play C&C games (single player/skirmish) on my laptop when I can't get online. I'm not an idiot.

I can't see C&C improving after RA3 and C&C3.

C&C3- just a bit uninteresting imo, the units are boring, RA2 and Generals both had nicer selections of units.
RA3- So much wrong with this, the graphics, the gameplay in general, the resource points ( save that for generals 2 ffs EA), the units, the lack the ''cold war feel'' like in RA2 and RA, etc...

sounds a bit silly...surely for sp play only your achievements can be stored on your own computer.
i dont really want to be waiting around for a response from EA when all i want to do is have a quick skirmish.

but if the gameplay is half decent i will still buy it.

I don't like this, I would like to play my single player games without the internet, such as on my laptop when away for example.
If there's the option of buying this with the stupid online only or a pirated version to disable it, you can bet where my money isn't going.

Player progression needs to be "tracked"? Why not let your own computer do it in single player like other RTS and more noteably, RPG games.

Who's internet isn't always on in this day and age. It's fine by me.

I like to play games on my laptop during my lunch break - where wireless isn't accessible. I like to play games on my laptop in coffee shops, where I'd have to pay an extortionate amount for wireless.

In any case, if it's an EA game then UK customers aren't going to be seeing it on Steam, so I wouldn't have bought it anyway. It'll be amusing if it's released on Steam anywhere else though - just how is this meant to work with Steam's offline mode?

problem is if you have like virgin internet and it goes down...

or if the server at EA end goes down and you are denied access to play the game you paid out to play...

happens with CoH all the time, but even when the online server is down, at least you can access single player - can the same be said for C+C4?

If its anything like the recent EA efforts to create a C&C game, i can't see the problem as i won't be buying it anyway :)

But the whole MMO / needs a constant internet connection sounds like a crap attempt of putting a not very well thought out DRM idea into action.

And yes, whilst id guess most PC gamers have a decent and stable net connection, what about those who's connection drops every now and then? sorry but you can't play a game you've shelled £29.99 on? meh

Not that im advocating piracy, but every game thats come out with some fancy way of stopping games being pirated has never worked up until now and it will continue to never work so this is a pointless sly why of the developer attempting it.

It's not for piracy reasons...?

So they say.

To me it just sounds like a tacked on 'online feature' which is there solely to give a halfway legit excuse for you needing to be connected to them at any point in time you wish to play your game.

They know full well if they just came out and said 'for DRM purposes it needs to be always connected' that the backlash would be huge. This just covers it up and gives them an excuse to say otherwise.

*Shrug*

It may well be DRM, but at least it's DRM that's adding something to the game experience.
