C&C4 Requires 'Always On' Internet Connection

i would like to think that this is an exciting new approach that will bring a new experience to this sort of game. only time will tell.

interestingly enough regardless of opinion on C&C3 or RA3 both seemed to have sold pretty well so i cant see them being in a huge rush to change things...

Personaly I don't like it.

Yes I have always on BB, but I also play some games on my laptop away from home e.g. last week on holidays in deepest Devon where their current intepretation of BB is carrier pigeon.

Also why should I have to provide them information on how rubbish I am at playing their game. I just don't feel I should have to provide someone with information to use the game. I think this may start to set a precedent if we don't look out. Quorm anyone???? Targetted gaming adverts from EA for games your abilities allow you to play??

Don't get me wrong I understand there are games that are must have connections for e.g. Wow types and I play online only games e.g. iRacing. But by all accounts this will have a single player campaign that doesnt' need to download content on the fly to allow it to continue to play.

Will I buy it, well, I'll wait for reviews and demo's before I decide that. I've been playing this genre since Dune 2, but recently it has started to go a little past it's sell by date.

*Shrug*

It may well be DRM, but at least it's DRM that's adding something to the game experience.

Adding what? As far as I can tell, if anything its just going to be something like Steam's cloud, keeping your game saves remotely, so you can continue your game on any PC you log on to.
But few of us play new games on anything other than our main PCs. So, while it's handy for those few, they were likely already used to transfering their saves, or had alternative options set up to keep their saves up to date.

As an optional feature, this would be great, but forcing it? That's a big no no in my books.

problem is if you have like virgin internet and it goes down...

To be fair, I've been on virgin for years, only gone down on me two or three times in that time. And that was only for a short time, couple of hours at most.

More to the point, is anyone bothered about C&C nowadays, gameplay just seems so old compared to the likes of COH, IMO.

Who cares? C&C is dead anyway.

I agree. C&C3 was quite good in my books and Generals was a fair game (if they hadn't tried to pass it off as a C&C title). However the last classic C&C game was RA2 and YR. "Red Alert 3?" I hear you say. What was that? :p

As far as being online is concerned it doesn't really bother me. Doubt this game'll be good enough to play offline on my laptop anyway. There's always RA1 for that. :)

I know how you feel, my old 386 doesn't meet the requirements to play Crysis :(

Thats away from the point, If you cant afford the mainstream means to play then its bound to be tough ****, but there are still parts of the country with no broadband access, and some of us dont have the luxury of living somewhere that broadband can be fitted due to our jobs.
Theres not really much rational reason for needing an always on connection, its not going to change the gameplay in any major way - basically forcing anyone without always on connections to go down illegal routes to play.

made me chuckle... :P

I don't mind but I would be interested to know what happens if your internet goes down whilst playing - does it kick you off and you can't play until BT/Virgin/whoever get it sorted?

Bit worried.

Who's internet isn't always on in this day and age. It's fine by me.

I don't have internet any more and i don't have plans to get the internet at home any time soon. My preferred game play is skirmish.
TBH even if i had internet i don't like the idea of requiring a constant internet connection it feels like I'm being spied upon.
So its unlikely I'll get this title either, Back to D&D or BattleTech for Me.
