So where does this fit in in their range? Is it meant to be more of a 'sports car' than the XK??

Definately, and it drives like one. Still have HPAS for a start

The base spring rates start from the XKR-S spec.

The cooking pot models will have suspension thats as stiff as the flagship 'hardcore' version of the XK range.

What's the XKR-S ride like? Bone hard or not too bad?

Amazing considering its on 20" wheels aswell. Perfectly usuable on UK roads yet offers the adjustablity that you just dont find on the XKR, I think the 'dynamic pack'/XKR-S front uprights which are much stiffer and help body turn in response also feature from the entry spec.

Ive got an XKR next week with an XKR-S over the following weekend which will offer a degree of comparison

Is it AUTO, DSG or manual or any options, weight?

ZF 8 speed Auto on the non Hybrid.

The C-X16 specs are a little off in terms of numbers. Particularly the battery kWh is way too small for that power and of course that effects the car weight.

Yeah I was trying to add some images but iPad makes getting urls a pain so had wrote that before your post.

There are a number of technologies that may Improve gear response and torque converter lockup under investigations. Plus the gearboxes arn't quite off the shelf generic items.

Nothing suggests a manual might not appear later.

On paper its a fantastic car. It looks awesome too! I do hope they don't "value engineer" the final product. E.g - plastic dash vs a leather dash.

Well unlike MrLOLs first prediction the F Type will have MORE leather than the C-X16.

More engine detail announced at Beijing.

The new 3.0-litre V6 shares some of its technology with Jaguar's own 5.0-litre V8, including direct injection, variable valve timing and aluminium construction.

The new quad-cam V6 announced in Beijing is bound for the XF and XJ saloons, but it'll also power the new F-type, Jaguar's newly announced sports car which will cost around £55,000 when it launches in early summer 2013 as a roadster to slot between the Porsches Boxster and 911.

Jaguar's new V6 comes in two states of tune, both supercharged by Rotex-type twin-vortex blowers: 375bhp/339lb ft or a lesser-boosted version developing 335bhp/332lb ft. The more powerful model is for the F-type, while the 335bhp version is what'll appear in Jaguar's saloon and estate range. It's powerful enough to send the XF or XJ to 60mph in 5.7sec.

because £58K buys a lot of serious metal.

Well that is a given obviously.

Its more like £26.5k to compare the base OTR.

I have to say im a little dissapointed by the base model option set aswell.

May aswell go straight for the V6S.

Does the manual come in all flavours? The V8 R manual would be a handful!

V6 flavour only.

AWD was also announced with Bloodhound SSC sponsorship a week or so ago. JLR have now confirmed the fuel pump for the project is powered by the AJ133 Supercharged V8 in the F Type R.
