Afternoon Guys,

Have been looking at upgrading to C2D and am wanting to know which is the best model Mhz per £££

I've seen a Sig in here with someone running a E2160 @ 3.6ghz :S

Wont really be on a massive budget but have set it at £200ish (+ VAT).

Have been looking at the following, which would be better for overclocking?

E6750 - 2.66 Dual 1333FSB - Cheapest
E6600 - 2.40 Dual 1066FSB
E6850 - 3.00 Dual 1333FSB
E6700 - 2.67 Dual 1066FSB
or
Q6600 - 2.4 Quad 1066FSB - Most Expensive

Not quite sure they go in that order in price, can anyone help?

Chreers

The 2160 is the daddy for £££ per Mhz.
Its soo cheap and can overclock past 3ghz.
I would wait though till the july 22nd price cuts as thier surpose to be big.

The reason they don't seem to make sense with regards to price, is because the E6750 and E6850 are currently advertised at the price they'll be sold at after July 22nd. The other C2D's (E6600, E6700, Q6600) have yet to come down in price, but the pricing will make sense after the 22nd.

The E6600 and the E6700 will remain at their current price i believe. Only the Q6600 is set to come down.

Ermm no they are not.

Even Gibbo himself said expect the E6850 price to drop a bit.

E2160 @ 1.8ghz oc to 3ghz. £60 i think. 800mhz fsb but i think someone tested and found 800/1333 isnt that diff in speed.
Not for the CPU maybe (assuming multis set for equal overall speed) but it'll make the world of difference to your memory bandwidth.

Well,

Maybe I'll save up and go the whole hog at the end of the year.

Does anyone see making the upgrade to an X2 4200 (S939) (and overclocking to 2.8-3Ghz) worth the £50ish?

Will I see an increase?

Cheers

Whats the multi on that E6750, is it not x8, if so there your answer. With a x9 multi, E6600 has potential to go higher without overloading memory and mobo to breaking point to do the same o/c speed with E6750 iirc? Out of the box stock speeds then of course E6750 is better.
