Hi,

I was about to purchase the C2D E6300 (as seen here) but then I noticed what it says right at the bottom:

"- Only compatible with new Intel 965 and 975X socket 775 Motherboards (Older 975 boards are not compatible)"

So, does this mean it won't work with a Asus P5LD2-VM DH which uses a Intel 945G chipset? It is a socket LGA775, so i don't understand why it wouldn't work.

Thanks.

C2D runs on just 1.2 - 1.4V, this is lower than many older motherboards support, as Pentiums 4's used a higher voltage.

While its possible to build a motherboard with older chipsets that support C2D by including the appropriate voltage regulators, just slapping the processor into an old board with power regulators designed for P4 is a sure way to a burned out C2D.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link to the asus site, so I won't, but on the Asus website it does state that the P5LD2-VM DH supports C2D's:

"- Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo Ready "

So it does seem that the motherboard supports C2D's, which is why i'm confused as to why the processor supposedly won't work on the motherboard!

I'm looking for confirmation that I'm not going to be wasting £100 by purchasing the processor, so thanks for any information.
