C63 AMG

The curently available C63 is still based on the previous gen (2007-2014) W204 C-Class, so still has the all important 6.2 N/A V8 :) - the new W205 C63 hasn't been released yet, think it's due in 2015. I believe the facelifts came in mid 2011 or so.

Don't suppose you know what changed on the 2012 facelift cars and what the performance pack added to cars both before and after 2012?

Correct... The next one will have a smaller engine and be turbo powered.. booooooo thumbs down

The biggest difference between the two is the transmission. Apparently the transmission in the prefacelift wasn't all that.

Yeah the facelift got the AMG speedshift MCT transmission from SL 63 AMG, replacing the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.

Gibbo, best to look here for all the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_C-Class_(W204)

The contents section should help you find the relevant bits related to the C63 for pre and post facelift.

EDIT: I also think I'm right in saying the coupe is only available as a facelift car (they didn't make one before that)

Tells you the differences here. Pre facelift PP additions are the same.

I dont find the 7G that much different to the MCT in the facelift. It can be slower to respond when using the paddles to change, but you can get that altered as part of the remap package.

Correct!

The one I drove was a 2012 Coupe. By far the best body shape. In Fire Opel red they are quite frankly totty on wheels.

@Gibbo With regards to the performance pack it gets slightly more complicated. Prefacelift Performance Pack came with LSD (I think) Post Facelift even if Performance Pack was specced you then had to add the LSD on (Option #471 on the spec sheet I think). Definitely have a look, I think there is a recent thread on

Quoted from Pistonheads

"Now, the tough one, how do you know which has the LSD....Look for 'PPP' or 'Power Pack' or 'Performance Pack Plus' in adverts along with 'LSD', 'Locking Diff', 'Limited Slip Diff'. I am sure that someone will come along shortly and tell you exactly which years have the following but the following are available:
- Any C63 with or without the PPP can be specced with the LSD.
- Some C63 were available with the PPP but you had to spec up the LSD as well.
- Some C63 were available with the PPP which included the LSD

The PPP is an easy spot though thankfully. The red brake calipers are an easy visual giveaway, although these can be cheaply retropainted. The other giveaway is the suede rim steering wheel from 2-4 and 8-10 (as in a clock dial). "

Also the brakes are slightly different on Performance Packed Cars. Use a double composite disc and pad or some such magic AMG trickery.

Coupe looks horrendous lol. Much prefer the saloon. Wouldnt complain if someone handed me the keys to a coupe though. Put together a small summary in the Merc thread.

Lol the rear quarters just look wrong and chunky lol.

Other than that such a delightful and menacing car to drive.

The 2009-2010 do tempt me with Performance Pack/Diff, as long as the auto box can be map to be responsive as I believe its stronger than the newer MCT box and more reliable.

Nice soft but capable saloon with 550BHP and a big great dirty V8 noise is somewhat tempting. :D We shall see.

A colleague has a pre facelift PPP and it's awesome. Engine was much quieter from in the cabin than I expected - quite surprised. I'm not sure he's aware he's only getting 90% throttle! Will have to tell him to look into that!

I intend to get the remap done on mine within the next month, either at JR Tuning or MSL. Kents a bit of a trek so may just go to MSL, as they seem fairly well regarded.

I would seriously consider one of these as my next purchase, just the running costs put me off (someone put up recently how much it costs to replace the front disks and pads...serious money).

Had one blast past me a few weeks ago, the sound is to die for
