C7 vs C9

8gb is a little low even for low poly modelling. If you start to page to a mechanical hard disk then you will get really bad performance.

We spec an i7 930 with 12gb minimum for artists.

I think Ive mucked up - Just ordered x2 sticks of 4Gb, and the motherboard is triple channel.
Would it be better to get 3x2Gb ie 6Gb triple channel over 8Gb dual channel?

Dual channel works just fine on a tripple channel mobo, and tripple is hardly any faster. But would make sense to maximise your performance and get a 6GB tripple kit. Cheaper than 8GB dual channel, and you can upgrade to 12GB later.

Lower latency is always better especially if used with the Intel Core ix series. I certainly would get the vipers. Price difference for 8GB is not really that far out however higher density would benefit you more than a lower latency. It's a hard decision. Good luck.

Without knowing your CPU + MB spec no one can give you a true and honest answer to your question :)

THIS was the best answer

Noted that you later mentioned a Triple channel MB so are you planning on a i7 9** ? If so you would benefit from running triple channel memory. Again which modules would depend on if you are going to run it at higher BLK than stock.

More initial info = better answer than a complete SWAG (Scientific Wild Arse Guess) :)

Its an i7 950.

So it seems its not the end of the world? An upgrade with an additional matched 4Gb Stick would benefit. (maybe Rendering?)

It's a good thing the RAM you ordered is only a 1x4gb kit :p Just buy one more and you'll have 12gb, and can upgrade to 24gb if you feel like it later on...
