Not QUITE sure if this is the right forum, but I'll post here anyway.

I've just ordered my XFX Pro 1250W beast PSU. I was wondering if there was anybody on the forum who might be able to recommend anywhere/anybody who does custom cable braiding?

I would do it myself, but I dont have a heat gun nor the tools/confidence to take apart my brand new PSU cables myself haha.

cheers!

I couldn't find a hair dryer that got hot enough to do it but if there are ones that do then cool :) makes it easier. The other option is normal lighter will work, just be sure not to keep the flame in one place on the heat shrink as it will burn it.

I don't know anywhere that will take a whole psu off you though and braid it. I braided a cable for fireisdangerous (think is his name) but I couldn't do another one and I believe he did find someone to do it for him so maybe email him to find out who. Though that may have been just extension cables.

Saying all that though, braiding really isn't that difficult with modular cables it is just time consuming. If you are buying the braid for a full psu then you should only be talking about smal increase to buy the pin removal tool.

Never used an xfx psu so I don't know about the pins but some are nigh on impossible to remove. If they are the normal pins then I might be able to do it for you if you want, depends on the details-how many cables you want done, when you want them done by, what braid you want etc.

Cool, appreciate that, once the PSU arrives (hurry up mr Courier!!!) - I'll take some pics of the pins and cables and post em.

I've just braided my XFX pro 1000W platinum, its very easy, just takes AGES. Only differculty I had was some of the 24 pins have 2 wires connected which makes getting the pin back in the block when braided and heatshrinked differcult.

I used a heatgun which only cost £20 from BnQ, well worth the money.

Using a lighter is fine but beware it'll burn your thumb after awhile.

It isn't so much what the pins looks like, only really find out when trying to remove them. I had some gpu 6 pin extensions which took a lot of effort to remove and I don't want to go through that again.

If that is the case with yours as well, I may have to decline - depends how many there are. If there are lot then they are a pain to do, if only one or two should be fine.

There's 4 doubles on my 24 pin, not a lot but 4 too many.

anyone considered using a candle might be safer then a lighter

Bad idea. A candle has a lot of soot.

To use a lighter, hold it above the flame, its not dangerous, and needs very little heat.
I use a gas soldering iron which has a blowtorch like nozzle. Thats only if its handy, otherwise I use a lighter!
