Cable conundrum

I have a pcie power cable which has one plug that fits into the gpu and then 2x 6pins and 2x 2pins that go into the psu which slots do I plug these into

I think you may have it the wrong way around. The 2x6 pins with 2x 2 pins go into the GPU.

Because some GPUs have two power inputs, and you can use one cable to power two GPUs.
