Odd thread title yes I know, But basically I'm disabled, And as such I can't really do any of the cable management myself, My friends have helped out as best they can but their time is limited and I don't wanna put them out of their way just to spend time under my desk sorting out all the cables for my pc and stuff. So with that in mind I was wondering if anybody knows of a professional cable management service that would come in and sort out all my cable management woes from my pc and everything else, It would definitely help my mental!

Yeah 80 quid an hour in London not too surprising
Though should take less than an hour
Probably don't do half hourly rates though

Friends and/or family Probably best bet
If i was physically able I would certainly do it for my friends
That's what friends are for

You may find a kind forum member in here
Who would help you out if they're near you though

The times over the years I have moaned about how often
Fixing someone's PC involved me getting down on my knees
Underneath a desk etc
And now I can't do it even if I wanted to
Life's ironic sometimes

I know exactly how you feel mate, you're not alone, I used to take great pride in my cable management, but since losing the use of my left arm/hand, I just cannot do a lot of the building side of PCs, and I really, really miss that, luckily when I got out of the care home back to my old computer everything was great until the motherboard cacked itself and I needed to pay somone to build my next PC, I just googgled for computer builders in my area, and I found a really decent guy, he charges me £50 for the half hour, but he is really fast at stuff without his standard of work lowering, he is a autistic OCD continuous vaping PC wizard his cable management is top class, I'm sure that every area has a chap like him, you just have to keep googling, and phoning them up
that £80 an hour people sound pretty good, I'm sure that it could be done in an hour, and maybe if you let them know that you are disabled they will do it on a half hour baisis, can't harm to ask, there are some good people on earth still, my guy is meant to be my guy is meant to be £100 an hour but after seeing me and talking he was happy to do it for less than charging for hours, but again, I know that he is confident in how much he can do in half an hour
all the best, and good luck to you buddy, keep on looking and you will get there, I promise!
also: I would chip in if you were really just finding it hard to pay for an hour, if we are allowed to do that with a go fund me or whatever!

£80 an hour? im deffo in the wrong line of work.

Thing is something like this is surely a rarity, I can't imagine many non-disabled people paying someone £80 an hour to tidy up some cables unless you're super wealthy. So you maybe lucky to have 1 job a week lined up with this sort of thing. Almost definitely would be a side gig so you'd also need to make it worthwhile to bother with.

Really appreciate all the replies, yeah it's basically a case of all the cables coming out of the PC, my friend is a superstar and helped me build the PC and did all the cable management in that. So my PC itself is actually doing just fine with regards to cable management.

It's just everything else outside the PC... I think we all know that cables are alive and have a mind of their own after the lights go out...

Yeah I've seen the places that charge £80 to £100, haven't had a chance to get around to calling them yet as they seem to be the kind of places that do big enterprise stuff so I thought I'd ask here first if anyone knew of any alternatives.

I can't stress enough how awesome and lucky I have been with regards to my friends helping out with a variety of stuff, I guess it's more case of they have their own lives to lead and I don't want to put them out every time I need some cables moved around here and there.

@Threepwood I really appreciate the offer but you don't need to do that mate. The words of encouragement are more than enough!

I'll see how I get on with this quest of cable management and if I come up with anything interesting I'll update the thread!

Depends on the cables on the desk/floor etc as long as they're not a trip hazard, and relatively tidy and not tangled, who cares.

If you zip tie everything together it comes a pain if you have to remove something

Velcro cable tidies are your friend. If you want to support the cabling loom that you’re tidying to something wooden, use an upholstery tack to fasten the Velcro tidy to the wood.

Those adhesive cable tie bases cab be handy as you can cable tie the Velcro strap to the base to allow cable changes without cutting cable ties all over the place.

I struggle with a few things in life, am getting much better since my new cleaner gave me a little more motivation. The sides have been off my Fractal Design 7 XL since he started a few months ago, RAID cables and fan cables have been a nightmare for me. Lawrence will set me a small task every fortnight, last time he decided my rats nest of computer cables was my next job.

I know someone who drives 45 miles and pays £30 (plus parts) to have my mate change the windscreen wipers on a Suzuki Swift Sport... He's not massively wealthy, but he does pay money to avoid doing things himself.

another thing I was thinking of doing was getting a nice big USB hub and just having all my peripherals going into that as opposed to using the onboard ports, which I can't reach without help. Any particular disadvantages to doing this?

Central location, I use a KVM switch on my desk so saves me reaching down and under the desk where the dark unlit USB ports are (and only USB2 on the front anyway)

Only drawback would be if you're transferring a lot of data ie from one USB HDD to another USB HDD, that could overload the USB bandwidth and be slower than using two dedicated motherboard USB ports.

Fine for lots of devices ie mice keyboard joysticks etc
