Hi guys,

For the past few weeks my internet has been getting so slow (im on blueyonder 10mb) I used to get 1200kbps on downloads easy and no lag/high pings at all but now I am lucky if I get 100kbps and multiplayer games are unplayable. I don't have spyware/adware etc and am 100% sure its not my pc.

Anyway to cut a long story short I contacted their support and they have done everything they can check wise at their side and they can't see a problem so they are sending an engineer out tomorrow.

I just wanted to know if there was anything I should ask the cable guy while he is here? Anything in particular they can even do? I just don't want it to be a wasted call out.

Thanks in advance

Check your modem logs see: 192.168.100.1 for events, check you're config is 1024-348, if you can test the modem on another pc etc it's worth doing. You also want to ask him what your power levels should be as they differ wildly from area to area, this way you'll know for future if you high or low. Normally you'll get a power level check and a modem swap if a tech comes out, anything less isn't worth the visit.

Cheers avalon for the reply. I wasn't sure if they would check under the drain thing outside my house where the cable goes into aswell. I cant be certain but I think the slow down occured since we got a TV Drive installed downstairs. Unplugging that doesnt improve the speed though. Saying that I wouldnt mind a new modem, this one is about 6 years old. :)

If the power level is low they ideally should check it from the pit and work from that to the iso plate then the device to find out where the drop off is. TV Drive requires a good signal due to it being tripple tuner (I was/am still a trialist) it's likley whoever did the install didn't check the power levels on the modem, only the TVD box, mention the speed dropped after the other install to the tech.

Just realised you're local, the tech's round the NE are good, they don't outsource to contract/agency staff and most of them have been at it for a lot of years.
