Anyone know of any CAD software that will enable me to do floor plan type designs, no money to spend so either free or 30 day trial would is the only way. I've seen Autodesk Homestyler but its a bit basic, and frankly doing it via a web interface is a bit of a joke..

Not CAD but floor planner is good for room planning and the basic version is free.

Hi I am an Architectural Technician, can I help with anything?

Google sketchup is good, but not terribly accurate. Pretty much anything free is not very accurate. Depends on your requirements.

Full Blown (30 Day Trial) of any of the AutoDesk suits of software would do you!.. their fully working (no limitations or Watermarks) and theres loads of variants available to download from their website!!.. take yer pick!.. :)

you can sketchup down to the MM easily enough, why isn't that accurate for floor plans?

You can if you have the patients and time, but still lacks that of a proper program such as AutoCAD. Sketchup is as its name suggests a sketch program for doing quick rough 3D sketches. Like I said it depends on the requirements.

Sketchup is fantastic for modelling, its GUI is both intuitive and forgiving but you can with ease model very accurately. Some of the bigger 3D players could learn a lot from sketchup tbh. That aside I question its ability to produce 2D plans in a way that wasn't frustrating.
