Cadbury has shrunk the size of its Dairy Milk sharing bars by 10%, but will not reduce the price for customers.

Parent company Mondelez blamed costs associated with the production of its chocolate spiking, as it reduced the bars' size from 200g to 180g.

They are still typically being sold at £2 despite the downsize.

This isn't the first time Cadbury has shrunk the size of its products.

This has been done by chocolate bar manufacturers since time began.

As inflation hits, they keep the price the same whilst shrinking the bars, before then a big 'relaunch' of bigger bars at a promotional price, which then settles to a new higher price.

Process then repeats.

Isn't the problem that people actually don't put up a big fuss (in practice) and that they likely would if the price rose (in theory)?

I'd certainly just prefer if they'd just increase prices naturally instead of this obfuscatory ********.

Shrinkflation, soon the big bars will be fun size
Shrinkflation is one of those weird scenarios where people make a big fuss if a product gets 10% smaller, but nobody bats an eyelid if the price goes up 12%.

Disguising the price rise seems underhanded though, it's like a con for people who don't notice a product got smaller and fooling them.

Aren't Cadbury's bars being made in the uk again, with the cocoa being deliverd Netherlands is it, due to brexit, and then shipped here .. and the avg UK worker has lower productivty than their fr/de counterparts, so lower size ?
Anyway with inflation the bar is actually getting cheaper if it had remained same size and price

e: afterthought at the same time chancellor reduced petrol tax last week, maybe he should have increased sugar tax to help NHS

My favourite was when Nestle removed the walnut from the Walnut Whip.

There's not much point in snacks these days. You pick them up and they are light as a feather. Much prefer some of the homemade flapjacks that some cafes sell instead.
