"Cage nuts"

AH HA these are the ones i spoke of earlier:

Those are brilliant! Anyone know where you can buy those?

Also i can't help but feel that racks should all have a tray on the bottom of them that could be slid out, because the amount of screws and case nuts i drop when doing various things in a rack is frustrating, they always drop to the bottom or into the little crevices that you can't get your hands in to to get them back :p

LOL, and I thought we swore a lot. Did you just leave it there and walk away whistling to the pub?

I installed and commissioned 6x6513's (a pair in 3 different datacentres) for a major upgrade for a mobile telco. 4 months after install I got a job to pull them as the project fell through.

I never quite understood why they dont just make every whole thread-able? then you wont need cage nuts!

Cost.

To thread every hole would cost considerably more, as well as the strip would need to be a lot thicker to get all the thread in. Punching out an array of square holes is far far cheaper. Also, if you strip a thread, thats it buggered! With cage nuts, you can just bin them.
