Is there any free software that I can download to calibrate the colours on my BenQ V2400W 24" Monitor correctly?

Games etc look ok, but photos are abit off

Checkout calibrize and monitor calibration wizard (google is your friend). Neither will give you accurate colours, but can give you more "pleasing" ones.

not if you want it to actually be calibrated.

your best bet is to borrow one from somebody for a day. TFT's don't need to be calibrated often, unless you're doing professional printwork or something like that...

anyway, not all colourimeters cost £200+ like the Lacie Blueye...

the ColorVision Spyder2 Express can be had for about £51.
i think they might have some in the jungle!

You can also get the cut-down version of the Lacie Blue Eye Pro, the Eye One Display 2 LT (same calibration device, simpler software) for around £120 if you know where to look.

Bought the Spyder2 Express recently - will probably get round to setting up and running at end of month.

Not too expensive - £65 approx.

No idea what to expect :)

Hopefully will not be too disappointed - in the end I decided as I could only be sure I was getting the best picture if I calibrated the monitor then it was time to invest .

I may find that it's been a waste & my monitor is set as good as it gets - but as it says on the box I can check/re-check as often as I want and it can and will be used on all monitors I buy; so not a total waste no matter what result this time :D

Can you use these Spyder2's on any screen?
i.e. ive got a macbook, a 22'' lcd, and a 42'' plasma that all need calibrating really.
