My car has been making a rattling noise over rough ground so when I took the wheel off and I can move the caliper a few mm with my hand and seems to replicate the noise I am getting.

Anybody have an idea what it might be, somebody mentioned to me taking the caliper off and putting grease on the sliders and putting it back together.

As with anything to do with the brakes on a car, if you don't know what you're doing - take it to a garage.

It's just not worth the risk.

Which direction are you moving the caliper? There should be a little bit of free play from side to side. Can you move the pads in the carrier? Again sometimes they can rattle if they're a tiny bit loose. Better than seizing up though.

Do they have anti rattle springs? I placed some 312mm calipers on my wife's fabia and they rattled over bumps. I took the offending wheel off and found the caliper moved and made a rattling noise. I removed the anti rattle spring and bent it slightly so it had more tension when fitted. A la no more noise and fantastic braking.
