Call of Dooty: Why has gaming descended into CGI?

Agreed. These days it's all about attracting as many people as possible, which means lowering the skill ceiling. I've been playing blops 2 online and it's utterly farcical. Picture this scenario - someone shooting someone who hasn't seen them in the back or side, while someone is shooting them in the back or side, while someone is shooting them ... and so on and so on ... all while random killstreaks and grenades/mines are going on killing people at random. It's like a ridiculous Benny Hill show, just everyone has guns. The game is so random, spammy and luck based that anyone can jump onto a server and start getting kills. And that's great, except that it's killing shooters that had any depth or skill requirements as every other developer is trying to copy this template.

Sums it up perfectly.

I don't find myself playing them anymore, too easy, there is absolutely no challenge. COD4 was the last FPS I played competetively, but even then you could see the incline with the introduction of kill streak rewards.

I play Heroes of Newerth pretty much exclusively now as it feels like the only relatively skill based game around where I have fun.

yes skill points/ rewards on the screen looks so bad, Borderlands has loads of it, the only game i've enjoyed in the last 2 months is a return to Serious Sam 3 BFE, it's so good to play a modern old school shooter, where you die because you deserve to, no fancy thrills and spills, just clean responsive shooting and modern graphics

if you think of any new shooter that you can make, you'll find it's been done already or very similar
Oh ok then guess I've seen it all, time to get a new hobby then :( move along people nothing to see here :P
Just from the stand point of 20th century history plenty of things have never even been attempted in games & Sci-fi has endless possibilities.

what about DOOM 4 ? Well it has to be a single player only, just like all other horror shooters and it has to be located either on a planet in space, or back on Earth, so by default this will make it like Hellgate London/ Gears of War/Doom 1 and 2/ Resident Evil/ Serious Sam, this similarity cant be helped.

it'll be a guy with a big gun shooting zombies and Demons that jump out from every corner, it'll be very dark and look just like Stalingrad circa 1944...because it does already in the photos !

What about Lovecraft, that'd make a good doom game or team up with geiger

That may be true for many, but you don't speak for everyone.
The slow death of great SP is due to that kind of attitude.

I can only guess that you're fairly young :)

Well I only play games for the multiplayer. I'm 28, had my first PC at 4, played Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and every game at a single player level until 1997 when I played my first MMO and since then I struggle to complete single player games. I'd say in the past 15 years I've purchased upwards of 1,000 games and completed a max of about 20.

IMO a lot of games would benefit from ditching SP altogether & concentrating on MP & visa versa, for instance did anyone actually play MP in Bioshock 2?

you think that looks good !!!!

Looks like it takes a massive steaming dump on CoD - and I dont have to pay a laughable £40 quid for it + DLC because it's absolutely free!

Just had a couple games on it too and it's great. Skill is actually required (of course, it's basically quake). Would love to see the people playing Blops attempt it and have their bums handed to them.

Big publishers want their games to appeal to the widest possible audience so they aim their games at the lowest common denominator, it's a sad state of affairs really.

World of Warcraft has taken a similar path of being progressively dumbed down over the years.

That's saying something if a dumbed down MMO has become more dumbed down over the years :(

World of Warcraft Vanilla wasn't 'dumb' it was easily accessible and playable, but the 40 man raids and mechanics introduced from Blackwing Lair onwards were quite frankly brilliant for such a large scale at the time.

Then TBC was released, which changed everything for the worse.

the first FEAR was excellent, but the next two were crap, it was easy to see why the first was so good and the developers knew why too, but no; they tried to improve it and screwed it up, FEAR 2 only needed fine tuning.

COD is forever dumb because it's easy to carry on and make it dumb, plus all the console fans like it dumb, it's dumb, dumber and dumbest :D:D.... it's much harder to make a quality shooter.
