Call of Duty 2016 - Includes COD4 remaster

Just beaten this, thoughts below:

+Usual high production values
+I like the fact you can choose missions etc
+Space combat is a nice detour from the usual on-rails vehicle missions you get in CoD, not up to Freespace 2 standards but at least it has a half-decent control system rather than the usual random garbage you get from CoD vehicles
+Some decent characters, builds a bit more of an emotive feeling towards squadmates
+I love squad based FPS where you fight alongside AI teammates, and this game had pleasingly few solo sections
+Decent array of weapons/attachments etc

-Game-breaking bug on the mission where you have to destroy a fuel tower - my C-12 never entered the room where it is supposed to fight an enemy C-12 so after I killed it the game was irretrievably stuck, as there was no C-12 to open the door. Had to restart entire mission ://///////////////
-Main story arc is very short, take away the side missions and you could probably nail this is 5hrs or so.
-Spacewalk combat is lame, especially the guaranteed kill grapples :/
-Main character needs a slap in the face. Just sayin'.
-Really really annoying unskippable spaceship launch sequence at the start of most missions
-Not quite as many memorable epic set pieces as you normally get from CoD, they pile on the teammate deaths but not that many single staggering events compared to usual

Overall the game feels kinda like an action-oriented Mass Effect 2, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - it just lacks the length/depth. This game is a bit weird, the first half is very, very good but it flatters to deceive in the second half. I also played through Advanced Warfare this week and to begin with I felt that this was superior, but I'm now walking away from it not feeling so sure.

can anyone running this with an ultra wide 3440x1440 screen res and a 1080 gpu please let me know what gpu ram usage you have? mine uses 8012 of ram on the gpu.

I ask as im getting the odd stutter/pause when online in multiplayer games.
I dont seem to have any offline. I have read of people having the same issues when using keyboard and mouse as controls vs a gamepad who has none.

But this didnt solve anything for me and i cant use a controller lol.
I have tried setting the graphics lower and while this changes the memory use in some situations it doesnt remove the stutter/pauses.

Is this an internet issue?
I game online with a ping of 17ms on BF1 and have no issues at all.

At my new house i only have a dl speed of 7.2mb/s and upload of 0.8mb/s (slow compared to my old fibre)

Thoughts welcome and thanks.

If you are maxing out VRAM then that would be my first port of call to eliminate stuttering. Make sure you disable AA (or use FXAA). You've said lowering settings changes the memory use "in some situations" which implies you may still be hitting the 8GB threshold at other times. To be honest I would have thought an 8GB card could handle max texture size even at that res, but maybe I'm wrong.

Same res but two Maxwell TX's, don't think SLI was working but I was seeing over 8GB of VRAM usage.

Still a juddering mess in the cut scenes.

Thanks for the replys peeps, so it was a juddering mess in cut scenes, Was it the same online multiplayer?

I will post a pic later with the vram usage, i turn AA off as i find its not quite so needed at this res, however i have also turned other settings down to see how it runs and its the same.
My son has the game @ 1080p and offline using bots he uses over 5 vram @ 1080p. I havent seen his online yet but planning to tonight just to see if its the same experience. He has a 980ti and a 6700k not ocd (yet).
My brother in law has a 980ti @ 1080p and has no stutter at all and all is maxed out, seems very strange, he also uses over 5 vram.

I feel like I'm following your journey through these games, just many years too late.

No wonder people are mentioning VRAM, its using 23.5GB on my 7900XTX, but at least its 4K 120 maxed out and seems to hold it more consistently than BO3. Crazy VRAM usage for a 2016 game.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. Definitely has ME vibes.

I only own WW2 after this one.

It's not too late, I often play games years after they come out. I've literally lost track of which COD I have left to play. Barely been playing SP games the past couple of years.
I *think* WW2 is the last one I've played too, but maybe I've played BLOPS4. Then it doesn't help that they keep recycling the Modern Warfare name.

I think you did, you left a review in the WW2 thread :). I’ll be in that thread next.

Really enjoying this so far, it’s a bit different to many of the other CoD and I’m on board with that. Visually it holds up really well.

Although I missed all of these on release, they are good value at sale price and it’s been fun playing them in sequence, especially to directly compare how they evolved over the years.
