Call of duty 4 over rated?

I have not played COD 4 since shortly after its release, its too arcadey etc. COD:UO i have not played for over a year, but what a game. If i had my PC setup (at my parents now, long stiory etc etc) i would certainly play it again. Great game.

RO is a superb example of how WW2 games should be. Tactics, bravery & teamwork.

Yeah this game was pretty much a simulation rather than arcadey which surely put people off.

I do remember finding it incredibly hard to get into and often wondering where that bullet came from. After a weekend playing it i was hooked.

Never before has a game given great satisfaction when you have managed to kill someone 200 yards away. Awesome stuff.

Just a shame that war games are all about spray & pray, abilities and nade fests, its about time it went back to skill & guile.

I'm tempted to give RO:41-42 a real proper re-visit, Their was a big steam update not long back with new maps and gameplay and I know theres a comprehensive tweaking guide to improve the visuals, certainly the level design is excellent and you can't run and shoot from the hip with a MP44 without hitting sweet FA etc, and always found in general that most players took it semi-serious, and no spawn killing fests either

I absolutely loved the CoD4 single-player campaign - very well written, really pulled you in. Granted it wasn't particularly long, but what you did get was very well done!

It's a great game, but, we're talking about whether it is overrated so i'm going to say yes it's certainly overrated. Why? Because people voted it 'Best game ever' in a large poll a popular high street conducted, how utterly ridiculous

I think for a lot of people it is/was the best game they have played, But then that's because they have just joined the gaming world & they judge games differently to those that have been around for a bit.
It's a good game but it's a dumbed down user friendly FPS for nubs to drop in & out of without feeling out of place/touch. Because of repetition though most hard core gamers have gone back to games that actually need a decent user/player to get the best out of them, Those that have stuck with COD4 use hardcore mods etc to at least try to make it less arcade/console.
Good game but Yes well over rated.

One thing though, If there could have been user modded maps at discreet files sizes then the game would be Instantly Awesome.
^^ Hope somebody posts & says there is :)

Nope, have played tons of fps before and I don't see how COD4 is dumbed down., just cause it matters who's the fastest ( and not who can hide the best or shoot first like in hardcore) doesn't mean it's dumbed down...

And as I said before, pick small servers and there's no real nade/chopper/astrike spam...

I love CoD4, the same as i love CoD and CoD2.

The single player is brilliant fun, not too much story, great sound, atmosphere, looks beautiful.

But CoD4 is a much better multiplayer game ! brilliant fun ! much better people then on Xbox 360 aswell.

Just pick your servers carefully :) some are great fun, some aren't so much fun.

CoD 4 overrated? Yes. CoD 4 a bad game? Certainly not! :D

I'd go with that.
CoD single player games haven't gripped my since UO, it's just shoot everything, die, spawn, shoot, die, spawn, etc

CoD4 story was ok, but I didnt feel connected with it due to the gameplay style I think. Not that its a bad game.

I also have to say that Resident Evil 4 is the most overrated game in the world too. It shares the crown with CoD4. I can't play it at all. People ejaculate all over it so when I was playing it, I totally did not expect the drab environments, poor tank controls from 1995 to remain, hilariously bad animation and voice acting and the story to nosedive into complete irrelevance. It's one of the worst third person shooters I've ever played on. Want to move while aiming? Hahahaha no, stand there while we hack your face in or one-shot you with a chainsaw. Don't stumble into the invisible walls now then.

RE5 doesn't look like it will improve much either. No doubt it'll get GOTY or something stupid though, just like formulaic games like its predecessor and CoD4 (which is actually CoD2 with a skin pack) did.

One big  from me, why don't gamers actually try something different for once, than HURRRR ME SHOOT games?

Let's put it in perspective: we've gone from Deus Ex to oversimplified rubbish like this. Play that, then play the trite games of today and you'll see what I mean.

I agree with what you're saying, on the resi 5 front apparently they're completely redoing the controls for it and it will allow you to move when aiming and also a basic cover mechanic will be introduced. I'm dubious how much of an improvement it'll be, but yeah, every little helps.

Out of curiosity, have you tried dead space? It's what 3rd person (horror) shooters should strive to be imo.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm interested in it, a mate of mine has the game and he says it's really good, better than what many of the reviews give it credit for. Unfortunately I'm a little skint at the moment having bought FC2 recently.
