Call of duty 4: Will this run at 250FPS constant?

Just like people who buy a gaming mouse with configurable side buttons and hot swap DPI have an advantage in some situations over those without. Also don't forget the difference a good sound card and headset can make.

In that circumstance a user with a standard keyboard/mouse can simply use keyboard keys instead of extra mouse buttons, or simply move the mouse more when using turrets in a tank for example instead of a simply changing the DPI. These are all things people with basic equipment can do, spending money on peripherals may make things more convinient but the average user can still do the same things. Where as an engine exploit that allows people to throw money at the game and run faster, jump higher and shoot faster, something that is impossible for a slower (but still perfectly suitable to run the game) to do.

I'm not saying people should suddenly be banned for using such exploits, as there is simply not much that can be done about it now. I just want any modern games to not have these exploits in the engine from the first place.

Probably still get people with draw distance on highest and everything else way down :p

True but thankfully that doesnt make their weapon effective at that range. or their eyes be able to see me. If they are in an apache, then you're wasting your time trying to fight them any way :D Besides our server locks it at 5k maximum and thats what i use, with detail up :D goooood times.

Don't see it as cheating as well the engine allows it without any 'modification', if I had a system powerful enough to do the 250 but didn't intend on getting it for that am I still a cheater? Not to mention that if I was competitive you can only assume that everyone else would be doing their best to get this extra little advantage.

One could argue that it's an exploit but I can only assume they would somehow patch this if developers saw this as a big enough issue so I can only assume it was left there on purpose.

Does this apply to MW2 aswell?

Unfortunately not. In MW2, Activision locked most of the dvars in your config so VAC would simply reset the whole thing if you tried to change most things. The only thongs you could really get away with changing were binds and a few minor graphics options. It was the same engine though, and strafing etc., was still possible.

I chose to use the word cheat because it is a bug in the game engine. It is not something which was implemented "by design".

Assuming you're right and it wasn't implemented "by design", I'm still glad it is this way.

To make use of these "cheats" still requires skill and it gives the Q3 engine a unique feel. It adds something to the game, gives it a greater "learning curve" etc.

I should clarify my earlier post, I don't mind that people do this in a competitive and monitored environment, because everyone will be doing it.

But to actively go out and do it in a public play session just smells of one thing.

I can understand if it was in the pro leagues but in standard public servers its very lame.

People that do these tweaks won't be playing on "standard" public servers because they are mind-numbing. Only Promod servers worth playing on.

Either way I'll make sure I crank up the pointless details and effects from now on, because after all computer games are pretty much like real life and it's good to put yourself at a constant disadvantage. Makes sense.

So if its only on promod then it won't be a disadvantage
, your words :)

Enjoy the fair games :D

Despite the fact most of you consider this cheating, most COD players don't have a choice. The community on a whole refuses to listen to reason regarding the subject of forcing reasonably achievable settings, thus if you want to compete in the competitive scene fairly, the first thing you need to do is buy a machine that will get 250 constant.

Its ridiculous and I argued the point before COD4 was even released, but nobody who is able to achieve 250 wants an even playing field, they're too scared that'll new players with lesser hardware will step up to the plate, and take their position in the hierarchy of who sucks least at a game that doesn't take any talent. :P
