Call of Juarez,, Gunslinger

Wow, this is exceptionally good fun! :D Only played the first level for now though...... Wasn't expecting it to be as soon as I got in the game and from some screenshots!

Quite a different game to BIB (which I also thoroughly enjoyed!) in a good way.

I do love good westerns though :p :o Shame we don't have more games to choose from :(

Using this sweetfx at the minute:

Wasn't too sure about the art style/graphics either (BIB has really good graphics imo) but I have to say it is different in a good way :)

I've been playing this over the weekend what a great game for the money (£12 on steam) really solid arcade style shooting, it's not a deep game by any stretch of the imagination but it is a lot of fun & the story is quite funny defiantly worth a look.

One thing, the small screen is irritating, the cinema effect. My screen resolution is quite low compared to new screens. Is there a way to get full screen?

I've been wondering this myself, there was a line you could put in the settings file about disabling the border, but that doesnt remove the big black bars at the top and bottom anyway. Its the one thing which annoys me about the game, that I am having to play it restricted to the middle third of the screen.

Played the first Call of Juarez game way back when it was first released on PC, I thought it was a great game and easily the best Western themed game I'd played on PC or any format for that matter, Red Dead Redemption bettered COJ in later years but apart from that it remains the top Western game IMO. Disappointed by the sequel though, it seemed to be more of an arcade focused style of game and lacked the authenticity of the original, Only played the demo though so might give this new game a more thorough checkout as it seems quite a few people are enjoying it.

It's a little arcady but I really enjoyed it & it does not have the dodgy stealth elements the original & bound in blood had which is a bonus for £12 you can't go wrong really IMO.
Also you can turn off the visual displays of scores to make it less arcade centric, but I'd leave them on for arcade mode because they do help in that mode.

Decent price alright but mixed reviews, looks like scores of maybe 80 - 85%, is it worth it overall? The very reasonable price might just sway me. Nice to see new games not being a complete rip-off on steam.

I really enjoyed it! it's a light hearted yet solid shooter I probably played 40ish hours so for £12 it's worth a look.

There's a demo on Steam, now, so give it a go.
In my book, well worth the money!

I just got this in the Steam Sale and it's a great little shooter. Thoroughly enjoying it. I do like a western, but the previous games in the series haven't done much for me.

My previous favourite western was Gun but I think it may well be knocked off its perch :)

Just beaten this, thoughts below:

+Good graphics, I've always been a fan of the Chrome engine and this doesn't disappoint.
+Narration throughout is a really nice touch, helps build the atmosphere any story
+Interesting mechanics with flashbacks to replay sections, add in new pathways etc
+Brilliant performance, runs at rock solid 144fps in 1440p at higher than max settings. I know it is a slightly older game but even so, most games that look this good perform worse
+Generally good fun, doesn't take itself too seriously

-Perhaps a little bit too linear, although that's pretty much mandated by the narration elements
-Combat leaves a bit to be desired, most people just stand around waiting to be shot in the head and the duels are too easy on normal difficulty.

Overall I'd say this is good game and more accessible than the original.

I'm a bit late to the party but for future reference if anyone comes across this thread and wants an answer to the above questions, you can remove the borders by adding the following to Video.scr ( %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\techland\cojgunslinger\out\Settings )

ForcedHorzFov(110.000000)
DisableScreenBorder()
RenderViewportProportion(2560, 1440)

Obviously tweak above to match your resolution.

I found it dull as hell, it has a few moments but was let down by the combat which lets face it is what you play a game called "Gunslinger" for!

I though it was a really fun game to play through. I can't believe how poor The Cartel game was compared to this though - I think it's the only game I ever gave up half was through purely because it was so rubbish, I will usually stick with a game unless I get overwhelmed or stuck.
