Call of Juarez - Whats it like???

ah top notch.. didn't notice this for a fiver!

I've seen my housemate play through it, but I'm eager to give it a go in DX10 :)

So is there anyone out there that wants to have a game online. If so my source name is bloodline76

I am not regreting getting it for £5 ish. Shame no one on multiplayer.
If i have some time spare this evening i have go online :)

(I won't finish work today till about 8pm :()

I notice there's a dx10 setting in the graphics options

Does this mean the Steam version includes the dx10 patch, or does the patch add further dx10 content?

well i wont gush over this game... bought it as i was looking for a gunfight Western fps type game....and i dont usually make mistakes when buying pc games..(or if i do its usually only over about £10)

Positive

+ Superb Graphics
+ The gunfighting is actually fun due to bullet-time etc
+ decent story

Negatives

- Crippling Loading Times..sometimes as well as every single level..midlevel too.
- tries to mix it up with 2 styles of gameplay with 2 respective characters - shooting and sneaking. Sneaking levels are as boring as hell and annoying.

- feels like a console port

- very very linear

Basically feels like your playing a linear - on the rails western shooter - which is no bad thing but why in gods green earth they decided to chuck in all those sneaking missions i do not know because it kills the game for me....ohh that and the Loading jeez...destroys the realism and atmosphere imo.

I bought it via Steam but I'm stuck on the level where you get the horse. You have to use your whip to get across after you dismount the horse and I can't seem to climb the last rock.:(

Try walking as close as you can to the rock, while next to the wall. Then look directly upwards at the tree branch. Hopefully then you'll see the icon for grabbing, and it will work. Had the same issue about 30 min ago on the demo!

I can see the icon for grabbing but somehow I have to pull myself up as the second rock is higher.

Click the right mouse button to grab with your whip. Click right mouse button again. And again. And again. You'll winch yourself up. Left mouse button is to release yourself a little. Then both of them together to drop off. You may need to swing a bit when you are towards the top, though, to make sure you land on the rock at the top rather than just falling back down!

I thought this was a great game, throughly enjoyed it.Playing from the perspective of both main characters using stealth and all out bullet time, gun toting madness was extremely enjoyable.

Looks very pretty in DX9,haven't seen the Dx10 version.

Some of the stealth areas were quite tricky and required some skill to work through, hence the moaners in the thread who slate the game due to not having enough patience or skill!

Not saying it was crap game just too consoley.. im pretty sure though my recollection could be wrong...sometimes on sneak levels you get spotted once and its game over? madness..

But hey its nothing to do with patience or skill. Just didnt like it. That ok with you? :D

The latest updates do make the game more tolerable in regard to the stealth sections. I did enjoy the game especially the chase sections ridding the horse while trying to shoot the baddies that ride in while chasing your main target ;)

Its also a game that makes very good use of transparant AA to clean up the foilage. An incredible view when looking down from the eagles nest mountain section. Very nice looking game , and benefits greatly from aa/af.

Bit of a wierd game but worth trying if you want something a bit different. Graphically it looks very, very good outdoors although I found that if I put the textures above medium it absolutely decimated the framerate on my GTS320 (I suspect it needs a truckload of VRAM). Also seemed quite unstable in DX10 mode which has put me off getting very far into the game.
