caller id enabled UK modem ??

its like the holy grail trying to get something so stupid working here

caller ID on yer PC in the UK , the software is fine theres loads around that work well and can transfer messages across lans and even into media centre thats not the prob , its finding a UK modem that handles caller ID either internal or external ?? and for definate , coz theres loads that say they might but its hit and miss in a lot of cases which is a real pain

for instance my multi-tech MT5600ZDXV for all intense purposes supports caller ID , all web sites say it does ...even the modem reports AT#cid=1 as OK , BUT IT DONT WORK IN HYPER TERMINAL or any other progy that uses HT , so i`m giving up with it and figure its only good for the USA or somewhere else other than here , yes i have tried different INF files and checking them for errors but stil no joy

my line is enabled , my other phones show who`s calling but a high tech system cant display it without a god damn old modem ....LOL or new modem thats caller ID enabled

so any you guys got ant definate info on a modem that works with caller ID in the uk , the rest of the world is different to the UK so its gota be meant for the UK only

i will find one hopefully with your help guys

thanks mate , already seen that one , most if not all dont exist anymore , or if they do they dont produce caller id on there modems for the UK

zoom reportedly make one but getting hold of it localy is another prob

i`m amazed at how complex something so stupidly simple has become , the rest of the world is fine , only the UK has an issue and its bloody BT`s fault coz they changed from the standard adopted elsewhere

should also add that caller ID in the UK is FREE , look on BT`s web site and have a search around coz its damn confusing deliberatley , but if your careful and tick the right boxs , caller ID is free they want you to spend money on extra packages so the free bit is well hidden but there

i know coz i have signed up and my cordless phones now show who`s calling for FREE now if more of us used it and started pushing for caller ID enabled UK modems they wouldnt be so hard to find

you can even intergrate caller id into media centre with name nuumber and picture of who`s calling

so simple yet so bloody hard to sort out at the momment due to lack of UK caller ID spec modems

I do have a OLD 56k Pace modem at home, shall look at the model for you this evening if you like... you can have it if you like if its the right one.

BT Privacy thing. Caller display, TPL registration etc.

It's not exactly a well hidden fact though, they did pimp it on the TV and in the papers...

ok here is the link to the HIDDEN FREE caller ID on the BT web site , its part of the privacy at home package which is also free

as long as you dont bolt on any extra services , just be careful what you tick coz its set up to catch you out , if it wernt it would be a whole lot easier to find , when on the page i give the link to scroll down half way and put the deets in it needs , the next page is where ya gota be careful

excellent offer m8 , much appreciated but i went to PC world and bought the Zoom 3025 ( c ) make sure it has the C it denotes the UK version and tell them why you want it and if it dont work your bringing it back

i plugged mine in , phoned home from my mobile and Bingo caller id , just gota muck around a bit more coz my add on didnt work , but at least the caller ID did work in hyper terminal , that is a start

maybe they did m8 sorry but i dont watch a lot of telly , its pants ....full of BT adverts LOL and why i should i want to phone them ....i`m willing to bet you get put through at least 8 departments before one of the call centre peeps understands your request and tries to set you up with the paid for stand alone caller id service

nu nu nu , web is far better ...pffft if your careful on there site

stil ..the point remains caller id is free in the UK if your careful about what you select when ordering the privacy package

now to sort out the damn inf for the zoom .....caller ID works in hyper terminal but dont show in media centre or YAC ??? , its gota be the inf ....modems ....love em

Either way, Index page -> View All Services -> Home Phone Services -> BT Privacy. Doesn't seem that well hidden.

Yup.
Though we kept it since it worked out cheaper to keep the old CD& Call Waiting than move to Privacy and Call Waiting separately

The wonders of *. Caller Display worked fine from day 1.
