Hi.
I am a drummer and I play in a band. We don't play much heavy or fast music... perhaps between 100 and 160 bpm. I used to buy Vic Firth 2B sticks and found they were great. I tried some Ziljdian dip sticks in USA a few years ago and got to like the rubber dip grip so I bought three pairs of Zildjian 2B Dip Sticks (about a month ago) from www.theplanetofsound.co.uk.
I am not used to my drumsticks breaking often. However, last week I broke a pair of dip sticks about an hour into the set. (they split in half from one side of the tip to about half way down the stick). I was a bit surprised but carried on with some really old and battered Vic Firth sticks (I didn't anything better at the time). The band played again on Saturday and I ended up breaking another pair of drumsticks, but this time within 10 minutes of warming up?!? The sticks split between the tip and a fifth to a quarter of the way down and still look brand new (except for the fact they are broken ).
Have I just got a bad batch or are Zildjian sticks just really badly made? My credit card got charged on 17th March and although I haven't technically paid off my credit card bill for that month, I doubt I will be able to get any money back. What do you think?
EDIT: I really like the dip part of the sticks. If I shouldn't buy Zildjian anymore, can you recommend anything with the weight of a 2B stick with a similar grip?
Thanks.
Jon
