I've been looking for a MP3 player with over 1GB of storage and not for one second did I consider an Ipod, mainly because it's not drag and drop, but I can get a refurbished 2gb Nano for £65 and now I'm really swaying towards one.

I only need to know how the sound quality is and how easy it is to add tracks to it.

Sound quality is excellent. I actually have rockbox (www.rockbox.org) running on my nano, far better than the apple firmware but battery life suffers a little at the moment as they don't throttle the CPU properly yet.

I never wanted an ipod, and would have always considered alternative brands... until my brother bought me one for my 21st as a surprise. It's brilliant and I can't recommend it enough. If 2Gb is enough for you, then go for it, they're so easy to use, and although itunes was one of the main reasons i didn't like ipods, it's actually pretty smooth to use.

I was about to buy this until I was told I needed a damn USB stick at college. Now the ipod is a big no unless I can store data on it and just drag and drop like my old Iriver H140. :(

Basically I'm looking for a smaller iriver H140 if I think about it.

All iPods will act as mass storage devices when in disk mode. They will also do it when the disk-mode tickbox is selected in iTunes.

No. You can enable disk use on the iPod from within iTunes, which will set the iPod up to drag-and-drop files onto it like a USB drive.

If you don't do this, then you can start the iPod up in disc mode and achieve the same result.
