Calling all vintage knowledge holders!

IMC is Integrated Memory Controller which is QPI/VTT on your board. PCH is the chipset. I never needed to run it at 1.2v and that does seem excessive to me. There's a good guide here as to what different manufacturers call different things. It's based on P55 too and there's a handy guide to overclocking if you click on the link at the bottom of that page..

Ram will be fine at 1.5v as long as it stays at the correct timings and speed.

Nice one that's great, I'll have a good read of that guide as well then but I don't think I'm far off a stable overclock with some tweaking required. Having seen a bios screenshot in the above link I do remember seeing a PCH setting, so this is what it will be called on mine as well

Had a good evening on it installing the new PSU and the GTX 770, but I'm still hitting a brick wall at 200 bclk, getting blue screens and on some occasions even before it gets to the Windows load screen - this is with increased volts as well.

Will have a better play this weekend as I'll have more time, and I'll push the volts higher to see if this is the problem.

I also remember hearing about bclk flat spots, with a comment saying go past the bclk you're having problems with, so I will also try a higher bclk (e.g. 250) with lower cpu and ram multipliers to see if that can be stable.

I'll post some pics up of the new stuff later, but if I can get this OC stable the upgrade will be complete

It won't do 250. You have to remember it's one of the budget boards so just may not be capable of 200. Even my Asus P7P55D-E Pro topped out at 220. You may just have to run at a lower fsb and just use the multiplier to get further. Unfortunately this is going to end with your ram either above or below it's rated speed unless you have a very good selection of memory dividers in the bios.

If I turn the turbo option off, would I get away with running 190 x 21 ?

This would effectively give me 4ghz, but as you say my memory would be running at 1520mhz - potentially not a major issue with some tight timings.

OK here are a few pics of the build, as I say this will be complete with a stable overclock.

The graphics cards I've gathered since my first post... 7900GS > GTX460 > GTX770

Pretty happy with it so far, once I've got my stable overclock I'll be doing some gaming (other than Sims 4!), Assetto Corsa being high on that list.

This should tie me over until early/mid next year when I think I'll have a bigger revamp.

I just need a few black Sata cables :D

I can't remember if I had turbo on or off on mine. I need to go back through all my notebooks to see if I wrote down every setting. Did you find the fins on the cooler to be extremely flimsy? I used one of those in the sister-in-laws build and it had several mangled fins just from being in the box. It took ages to straighten them out. When I was installing it all you had to do was sneeze and they would bend. Pity really as they are cracking coolers for the money.

Turbo is currently off, so I guess there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to use the x21 multiplier... I'll give it a try later :)

The cooler - yes it's very flimsy, it was cheap and it feels cheap - it wasn't bent when it arrived but I can imagine it wouldn't take much to bend it out of shape! That said I'm pretty impressed with the cooling it's providing so far.

I've also been thinking today (since you pointed out I'm using a budget board!) should I just be happy with a 3.8ghz overclock since the cpu and board only cost me 40 quid! It's still a massive leap compared to my old E6400

Yes it's good but, Mooaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr powwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! :D:D:D

It's up to you, 3.8Ghz is still a very respectable overclock for what you paid for it.

:D :D :D :D

You are right though, I had my sights on 4ghz :p

I'll get there, I just hope I don't set the mobo on fire. Really fancy a G3258 in the new year but may wait for the new chips

TBH if I were to start this upgrade again I think I would go with a G3258 chip

One chap in the G3258 on H81 thread got his straight in at 4.5Ghz albeit on a Asus Z97-K motherboard. Budget boards is where it's at with the G3258, not a board that costs double (or triple in some cases on here) the price of the cpu. Also not sure that I could get past the fact that it's only a dual core.

Yeah good point I keep forgetting it's only dual core, but then this 750 is my first quad core :D :D

I have it running stable at 3.9ghz (195x20) and it's as solid as a rock, so it probably just doesn't like the 200 bclk

Happy with it for now

I would be quite happy with that from a 750. It's so close to 4Ghz though!!! :D:D:D

Had more time to play this evening...

195 x 20 was stable...
197 x 20 was stable...
199 x 20 failed...

So next I thought I'd go past the 200bclk to see what I could get with a x19 multiplier; it seems to hit a brick wall around 207.

So I currently have 206 x 19, giving me a memory speed of 824mhz, and a clock speed if 3914mhz. All perfectly stable.

So this does seem to suggest that it's the CPU holding me back, but still quite happy with the results and this latest clock does seem to provide better all round performance, probably because of the faster memory

Thoughts? Any other combinations I could try?
