Hes got a 2007 320 se which hes bored with probably worth 10k part ex, i think hes got 3k in cash and wants the rest off me.

I like that colour but i hear what your saying about the rest of it.

Pick him a winner Fox, no more than 20k preferably 18. A 330 not a 335 he dont care if its an SE.

Thats the same as his 320 fundamentally, just with a better engine and more power. Which once he gets used to, he will be bored of then as well. If he tires of cars easily I suspect there might be another answer to his question..

Whats the answer because i be ****ed if i know it :)

Something thats not a BMW 3 Series. 320i or 335i the base concept is the same. It's some refined, good looking, well built Coupe. If he tires of that with 170bhp he'll eventually tire of it with 270bhp.

Perhaps he needs an Elise or something.

Hes a 6'4 18 stone lump, hes got to be able to fit in it, anyway he likes BMW's innit ;)

With E46 Coupes starting at £2k for ropey examples now, he'd probably tire of blending in with the knuckledragger brigade, M3 or no M3.

Thats right plus the insurance is stupid for no performance benefit compared to a modern 330, hes off looking at 5 series now as well, broaden his horizon.

What year was the LCI thing like your dads Fox?

5 Series LCI was March 2007.

For £15k or less he's looking at LCI SE's. If he finds an M Sport, convince him not to buy it because you won't be getting a nice tidy one at this money. To get a decent LCI M Sport you need £18k+.

Thing is - what is he bored of? If he got bored of a 3 Series Coupe a 5 Series isnt going to excite him?

I told him this would happen when he insisted on the 320, its not a slow car but its not exactly effortless either, he wasnt bothered because it looks good, but i knew, because i know everything.

Now he wants more oomph and preferably an auto (i know the blue one was manual) because he is also sick of changing gear on his way to my office in the traffic, which i can appreciate.

See his cunning plan was just to get me out car hunting with him, by the way he was so quickly put off the blue one, i now know this to be a fact.

He dont like the look of 1 series, i think it really is a 330 he wants, although he was looking at 5 series earlier.

Im thinking of when it goes wrong and the actual purchase price.

But if he finds a good one, yea why not. Better a good 330 than a average 335 though.

Not this Chestnut! :p

I imagine if Mark is happy for him to potter about in anything more powerful than a Hair Dryer he'll be reet :).

Hell, wasn't Mark willing to let him drive his 552BHP Bentley the other day? :D

Under supervision, its different on his own :)

I think hes better off with a 330 less to go wrong, he will get a later car etc.

How much does no sat nav knock off the value? There are a few without that.

What else comes with that is it the i drive stuff? See he should be doing this investigating not me.

Excuse me for being blunt but shouldn't you be telling him to sort himself out jobwise before helping him upgrade?

Im sick of banging my head off the wall, im sure he will see the light and get a degree started in the end.

Till then he can pay this back 50 quid a week or whatever.

What you gonna do, kids, nightmare :)

You're far too kind! I know what response I would have got if I was in his position, and it wouldn't have been a positive one. But then I'm not lazy so perhaps it worked!

I'll stop derailing the thread now.

P.S Got any jobs going? :D

Wait till you have kids, your between a rock and a hard place :)

He hasnt got a job?! And he's looking at getting a 335i?!

I'm working to save for my 335i :(

Why would he bother wasting his time getting a degree when he can get the stuff he wants without bothering :(

He has got a job, he works for me.

He is just very reluctant to get off his arse and do a degree like i want him to. Which has been a bone of contention for some time.

He cant seem to grasp the concept of carry on doing what hes doing for a few hundred quid a week, or do something positive and get qualified to justify it and get a grand a week. Which saddens me.

Its a never ending saga.

I wish my dad would buy me a new car when I get bored of changing gears :( I feel deprived now.

See its not quite that bad, he owns a 10k car now, has 3k of his own, so he ends up borrowing 5k or whatever off me, better than paying interest to a finance company.

Anyway i could write a book about why im semi happy with what hes doing almost as long as the one i could write about why he ****es me off, so lets just move on.

Well why would he want to do put the effort in when he can acheive all the things he wants on a few hundred quid a week? The guy was driving around in a 2 year old BMW - most people with degrees can't afford one of those - so you can see why he's thought it isnt worth bothering!

Heck I'd not have bothered to go to Uni had my Dad offered to just buy me stuff.

See i feel i should defend him now.

When i was young i was a **** of the first order, always in trouble fighting.

When he was sort of 15-19 he looked like going the same way, by the grace of god he managed to avoid getting a record, which is important for my plans for him.

He also stopped getting in trouble once i reinstated him for the 123rd time in work and he met the girl hes with now, things have finally settled down a bit and we are bobbing along nicely.

Now i know what you all think, tell him ****** and get on with it, believe me there are days i feel like that, but hes my son, and i want to carry on with what i have built up, the shops the diamonds the property the lot, but he needs to get some training and a business orientated degree to be useful.

But hes 21, hes young and he cant see the rush, but i can because im 44 now and when im 50 im off to Spain, good night nurse.

Now iv bored you all with this thrilling saga i hope he dosent sound quite the ingrat i might have made him sound, he is trying, just not hard or fast enough.

I've got a Business degree (MSc). Buy me a 335i ;)
