Calling military experts

New paras are no longer to be advanced jump trained, existing paras will no longer go on annual refreshers. They took their chutes away. Yey defence cutbacks!

Seriously? Next you'll be telling me pilots don't actually have to practice flying :(

When was the last time paras jumped into battle??

“As previously announced, the Army has reduced the size of the Parachute force on short notice from a Battalion to a Company group," she said."Both Parachute Battalions have the necessary numbers of parachute-trained personnel to be able to carry out their required tasks. There is no intent to remove this capability from the British Army

funnily enough sim hours are apparently now starting to count towards actual flying hours so you are kinda on the right track there.

He also has an MiD (mentioned in dispatches) for his afghan medal.

It isn't that, it's the Queen's commendation for valuable service.

:edit: He may simply not have spent enough days (consecutive or cumulative) in theater to receive the Telic medal.

I guess this shows it's easy to think less medals is less achievement.

Friend of mine did a tour in Iraq for 6-9 (can't remember) months when in the TA. He got the campaign medal, and two commendations for bravery. The 'only' medals he has

He went out as a fun, happy go lucky individual, came back calm quiet and focused. I read his commanding officers citations for the commendations and they were nothing short of incredible.

One of those genuine 'I'd like to believe I'd have done the same' moments, but after reading the run down of what he did.... I doubt many people on here would have the nuts to do the same.

The closeup helps show the text and that it is Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland that the first two are for.

Interestingly no Long Service and Good Conduct medal... the fact that he has the Golden Jubilee medal means that he joined no later than 1997, meaning he has served at least 15 years in the Army so I'm pretty sure he's done enough time to receive it. He's most likely been a bad boy, or annoyed someone he shouldn't have :p

Intrestingly?

I was under the impression if your anything but the RAF and have a good conduct medal, you've done something wrong as in it's very uncommon to get a good conduct medal.

But with the RAF it's uncommon not to receive one.
