Cambelt change

Going to be getting this changed in the next few weeks as im not sure when it was last changed tbh. I was advised to change the waterpump while getting the cambelt changed, why is that?Any anything else to change at the same time?

Cos if the pump goes you have to take the cambelt off again and therefore the same amount of labour again. You could take the risk but on my wifes Polo the difference was £30.
 
I'd say it would be mostly be because a water pump needs to really be changed as an anticipatory measure. Once the water pump has gone, quite often, its too late :(
 
Change it at the same time . and check your antifreeze at the same time. Ive seen cars strip the cambelt when water pump frozen. Most water pumps come now where the inpeller spins on the shaft if it freezes thus allowing the cambelt to turn freely good idea if your not one for checking your coolant.
 
Just had my cambelt changed today. Got them to do the waterpump at the same time. I paid for the part (£40) and they fitted it for free as it's only a couple of bolts when the belts are off. Well worth doing for piece of mind
 
Yip, I'd have the water pump changed too.

We had our 02 plate 1.1 Saxo with 56k miles done at a Pug/ Cit specialist yesterday - timing belt, tensioner and water pump. The garage said the water pump was starting to leak ever so slighty. For the sake of £30, it's peace of mind. :)
 
Seat Leon Mk1 needs its cambelt done as its over 4 years now and seat say 4 years or 60k so i have mine in soon for a new belt and they do the water pump at the same time, its not cheap but defo get the pump done at the same time even if its perfectly fine.
 
I'm doing the cambelt on the MR2 and at the same time the waterpump, cambelt tensioner, alternator belt and 2 cambelt idler pulleys are being replaced as to do any of these later requires the entire 4 hour job. Best to do them all at once in a single sitting. This is with me doing the service myself, I just don't want to be jacking the engine, removing half the car and wasting time on it more than once.
