Cambelt change

About £10 on the Manta. It's very easy to access as well. Already has a new waterpump which I fitted in Arctic conditions last year - I'd have done the belt at the same time if it wasn't minus ten, with 5" of snow on the ground at the time...

Again it depends on the car, and your skill level. A Focus is relatively easy, you might regret ever offering to work on e.g. an MR2 Turbo, Fiat Coupe or the ZS180. Hmm...any of the cars I have owned basically!

$1600 for cambelt kit, waterpump and labour on the Legacy GTB. So, 7 or 8 hundred quid in real money.

Had my Focus 1.6 cambelt, tensioner and water pump changed on monday for £200.

While this is true and my previous 2 motors were chain driven, you'll cry yourself to sleep if the chain ever stretches and needs replacing...

This I think.

When I started looking for my current car I initially shortlisted only chain cam engined cars. Then I found out that most recent VAG and Ford cars seem to now have 10 year 100000 mile cambelt lives so wasn't so bothered.

Ended up going chain cam anyway.
