I am after a MiniDV Camcorder but only have a max of £250 to spend. Has anyone got any advice as to which one to go for? I have been looking at a few but i am not up on Camcorder info. One that caught my eye was the JVC GR D370.

Any help would be superb. Thanks

Hiya mate

I was in this situation a month back. I did loads of research on that website through the reviews and through the forums.

I came to the conclusion that Mini DV is still the way to go as it gives great quality for a great price. Whereas DVD camcorders are still quite expensive for a decent one.

I also bought my camcorder online from America, this was MUCH cheaper than over here even AFTER tax, i saved £200 approx on the model i chose :D

I chose the Canon Elura 100 which is called something different over here MX400 i think

Canon Elura 100 review

Its a great camera and is reviewed on that site, quite highly rated for the price ($320.00 approx).

Cheers :)

Do all Camcorders Recordings play back the noise of the Camcorder when recording has been done? You know, you can hear the wirring of the Camcorder when playing back a video taken.

According to the website and some reviews i have reda, some camcorders "wirr" more than others.

Why dont you go on that website and get the review of your camcorder and see whether it says anything of any significance.

But yes mine does when playing it back, but when i put it onto a PC its fine :D

Cheers :)

How come mate?

The site contains ALL camcorders in the US, some are renamed over here.

The Canon Elura 100 which i have is called the Canon MX400 over here.

Cheers :)

Bit worried about getting a Canon now as that was the 2nd one to have problems (Would not come on). Not sure what would be the next brand to look at. Been eyeing up the JVC ones. I don't want to spend more than £250 max.

EDIT: Just been told to get a Sony branded MiniDV Camcorder. Looking at the Sony DCR HC35. Any good guys?

my expieriences with sony camcorders are very good and the build quality is second to none. all camcorders will record that sound you cant stop it but turning the autofocus off helps.

I recently bought a panny nvgs180 (for a little over £300). It's probably one of the lowest priced 3 chips you can find, and I find it's a great camcorder. We used similar (if not these) in college and they're dead easy to use, and give good picture quality.

What will you be using this for btw?

Hey mate,

I was in a similar boat to you for my first holiday to the states 2 years back. I opted for a JVC GR-DX77US which has no camera whir :)

An up to date version would be something like the JVC GRD366EK

The canon seems a good bet.
