Camcorder Spec

IF you can stretch to your #1, I'd wager you'd never look back and be absolutely thrilled with your choice.

Yes that is my first choice, however I am not sure about the price, if it is worth the money.

Also can someone give me some details for the touch screen? Since some reviews I read say there is not enough sensitivity and sometimes you end up going in the wrong menu and such.

Also forgot to say, since I will be buying it from Japan it will be NTSC. Nothing wrong with that I suppose?

The 60i will be the NTSC version you need to look for the "E" version that will be 50i

Yes you are right, I was looking at the NTSC version first, but it would cost me more to bring it from USA due to Customs.

Depends on where you want the footage to be seen? YouTube; you'll probably be able to upload the NTSC clip without chaning frame rates.

On your home TV/BluRay, well you will probably need to change the frame rate from 30 to 25 (60i fields to 25i fields)

if i'm not mistaken though, the japanese hf s21 is exactly like the usa one, even the frame rate.

Frame Rate: 60i, Native 24p (records at 24p), 24p Progressive (records at 60i), 30p Progressive (records at 60i)

Also I will view the recordings on my full hd tv which takes both pal and ntsc

Bad news ... I can't afford the S21 right now, so I will be buying a more affordable camera.

Sorry to bother you again but I gotta ask again.

Now I am between the HF200 and CX155E.

I'm getting the feeling that the Canon HF200 is better, despite no touchscreen and no internal memory right? With regards to picture quality I think the HF200 is a bit better.

Also those who have the HF200, can you tell me what kind of battery lifetime to expect?

I am really torn between these two.

Edit - The HF200 is 1080p while the CX150 is 1080i. Is this correct?

Canon output is 1080p and - from my understanding - the Sony isn't.

Battery life for the Canon is about 100 minutes from full charge (I have the LCD on very bright).

Thx for that.

Since I will be filming for more than 100 minutes in a day, do you recommend upgrading the battery to say the BP-819?

Also do you think a 16gb SDHC class 4 is enough?

any recommendations are appreciated. As you might have noticed i'm leaning toward the HF200 now :p

I managed to pick up my Legria HF S10 for £530 off fleabay, if you look on there from time to time you can get them cheap. The 'Vixia' models are NTSC, so beware of the sellers that have their listings as Legria/Vixia, it's a lie and you'll notice that in small writing on the listing the seller will state NTSC.

The S10 is almost as good as the HF S11/21, just the image stabiliser is a gen behind and a few other very minor enhancements but this has never been a problem for me. It does however it has the same excellent 8mp CMOS and looks virtually identical. It has built in 32 gb memory which is very handy, you can also chuck a 32gb SDHC card in there too.

Thanks for that gibber.

most of the S10 i saw for those prices were all refurbished.

I got a question...

If I can get the HF20 for the same (almost maybe 50 more pounds) price as the HF200, should I go for it since it has 32gb inbuilt memory. Apart from that they are completely the same right?

Thanks

Yeah, completely the same camera. I would be inclined to get the HF20 as 32gb SDHC cards cost about £50 anyway and the flash memory built into the device is extremely fast. At least if the 32gb isn't enough you can opt for a 32gb SDHC card to go alongside it and double capacity.

I actually found in my case, when I was looking around for a camcorder the S100 was the same price as the S10, sometimes being more expensive!! Madness.

I am loving this camcorder... such a nice and easy to use camcorder...

I got a couple of questions though...

How do I transfer the videos on the PC?

And how do I burn them on a dvd to view on my full HD tv?

Thanks

TRansfer using the built-in connectivity (i.e. cables).

For viewing on an HD TV, it's slightly more complicated - you're best off using the component input and rigging that up to the camera. I don't know how to go about burning the videos from my MF200 to DVD, purely because the DVD is an SD medium.

If you're got a DVD player that will do MTS or whatever the file is (AVCHD), then you may be in luck...
