Hi people,

what is it with lorries and parking?

went to go and pick up my dad tonight, and on route i came round a gradual bend about 45 - 50 the limit is 60, and as i finish the corner i see this lorry about

200 yds ahead (rough estimation) with its hazards on parked in my lane. so i hit the brakes slowing down fast then i hit a wet patch of road and the rear wheels lock up and i begin to skid closer and closer to the lorry, and im thinking this is it and i stop just shy about 10 feet from the back end of the lorry. so i sit there for a few seconds breathing hard, i get out and go upto the cab and bang furiously on the drivers door and a window opens up
"What?"
"WTF do you mean what? are you seriously telling me you can't find a better place to park?"
the blokes head popped out of the window
"Where do you suggest?" - and it just so happens he was parked outside the driveway of a big company that was closed
"Errm howabout the giant driveway of this closed company?" then i hurled some more expletives at him and got in my car and carried on.

now i wouldnt of been so mad if there wasnt space to park

but anyway. incase of next time can i do anything more to stop quicker?

any advice greatly taken :)

a) You drive so you can stop in the distance you see to be clear. Regardless of his parking, it's a big lorry with flashing amber lights.

b) You locked you *rear* wheels up? Errr?

Biggest thing you can do to stop quicker is learn to cadence brake, and also ensure you have premium tyres fitted. No pap. Braking distance at 70mph can be reduced up to 10 car lengths by not fitting junk tyres.

How the hell is it his fault if he's 200 yards down the road?

Sounds like you shouldn't have been going that fast around the corner to be honest mate, 200 yards is a long way.

I came close to soiling myself tonight too! Was going down a dual carraigeway (50 limit road) going 50. There is a central divider (a big bush) and out of no where some dude on a bike pops out. The idiot put is front wheel out onto my lane and I seriously thought he was going to cross!

I had to hit the brakes and swerve a bit but then he stopped so carried on as normal but taking a wide berth.

What would you have done if the fella in the lorry was a psychopath and pulled a knife on you and stabbed you?

Seems you came VERY close to two major accidents last night?

Get a car with ABS :p

ABS saved my life/legs in just such a situation, the guy had parked his truck on the end of a blind bend on a 60mph road
No time to think I just slammed the brakes on, full ABS squeal/chirp of tyres barely not skidding, still going too fast I look around the truck to see if road is clear on the other side and overtake , phew

What were you thinking when you decided the best course of action for the fact you nearly were unable to stop in the distance you can see to be clear (ie, you were travelling too fast for the conditions (wet road) and the performance of your vehicle (poor quality tyres) was to go and hurl abuse at a parked vehicle? :p

"Stupid kids" and went back to sleep :p

mind you when i came back it was gone though. so either a titan from eve came round the corner and zapped it or he actually moved it :D

Yep - had my first and only experience with real road rage when I beeped my horn at a lorry who cut me up - he stopped the lorry, got out of his vehicle and proceeded to scream blue murder at me and trying to get me out of my car!!

Now you are just being stupid

... everyone knows the jump in lag would have been so bad you'd have known if there was a Titan about. I got popped by a Titan, instapopped my Enyo :(
