I only have the 2 kit lens,16-50 & 50-200.

i will be getting a prime soon and will probably be the sony 30mm

Do you manual focus at night? What do you think of the auto focus at night?

I've read the sony glass is disappointing for what you pay when compared to nikon etc.

I recently picked up the A5100 with the 16-50 and have been surprised at the quality for both video and stills.

I am still tempted by the RX100 IV or just get some primes for the A5100. Thinking the Sony 35 1.8 as my first one.

Am I daft for wanting the faster lens on the RX100 over the Alpha or best to just get primes.

It's not just the faster lens on the RX100 that does it for me, it's the portability. If a good job can be done by the RX100 then I'll use that. It's a simple matter nine times out of ten to carry both: my XT10 with 3 xf lenses and the RX100.

The A5100 is portable enough with the kit lens but yes the RX100 is a lot smaller and can be easily taken anywhere. The main reason for still looking at it was if I only kept the 16-50 lens. The RX100 one is a lot faster. At the moment any evening indoor shots get ramped up to ISO 3200. The assumption was the RX100 would allow for a cleaner image with the faster lens? I could invest in the Sony 35 and 50 1.8 but this means shooting a lot further back and running out of space. I mainly just shoot friends and family social gatherings.
