Camera Flashed, no one speeding?

Hi There

Was on my way home recently, I wouldnt call it traffic but everyone was going a steady 15-20mph in a 30mph zone, when all of a sudden a huge flash from behind. Now im just wondering if these cameras flash accidently?

It was a GATSO speed camera with line on my side of the road so im pretty sure it flashed the side i was driving on, and I dont recall anyone speeding on the other side of the road. Just a bit confused as no one was speeding by the looks of it, there was no room to speed, i had cars behind me and infront of me.

Just worrying :o
 
Don't be, you weren't speeding so nothing will come of it. Was possibly just a damaged sensor in the camera.
 
yeah, i've seen that. It happened to me in Brighton once, went past as GATSO at under the speed limit and it went off. As I wasn't speeding it didn't bother me too much and nor should you if you weren't speeding.
 
If it's just a single flash, then it's probably just discharging the flash as it hasn't gone off for a while.

It needs to flash twice to get you - two separate pictures are needed to be able to verify the speed you're going (which is what the lines on the floor are for)
 
its because everyone is scared of them! I deliberately drive a different route around them if i can, and go mega fast so i don't actually lose anytime! I wonder if that is the idea of cameras :p
 
I've never had a problem with them, always seen them well in advance and never been done for speeding in over 5 years.

My old man has got a tom tom and I must admit I was impressed. Think I'll get one, just that extra warning could save points and a fine that would probably pay for gps. :)

Is that the one along Old Shoreham road (from Brighton towards B&Q)?

I have seen that one flash when no one is near it. It even flashed me at 26mph...

When they check the film they use the road marking to validate your speed anyways.

Nah, it is the one which is next to Preston Park on the way out of Brighton towards the A23.
 
My mum works for the road traffic unit for the police and she has said to go onto the website and see if anything is up with that specific camera. See if any maintenance is due and if you dont recieve anything within 2 weeks then dont worry about it.
