Camera Quick Straps

:( All well saying that because they want people to buy from them instead of making their own, but would they be strong enough?
Just got my quick release plate delivered this morning lol. :(

It's the ring thats the problem, if like a few plates you can replace them, might be worth replacing it with an Eye Bolt from B&Q or somewhere. Much stronger.

Here it is.

I've been tugging at the ring with my finger and it seems to be ok?

Has everyone who's making their own strap read this from the PAP starp website:

I already have a few spare tripod mount plates and I wondered about the strength of the little d-ring before I even read about it on the website. The d-rings are just made from pressed metal and probably only protrude into the tripod screw by a couple of mm at most. I could probably bend my d-rings just by over-tightening them.

I wouldn't trust hanging my camera and lens from a tripod mount plate d-ring.

I can see the point the company is making and I think it is a valid one. So really those of us that are doing DIY versions the think to do is of test it throughly and not just stand there amiring your creation !

Well i've been using mine and it's actually hell of a lot better than the standard strap style. Mine seems to hold up fine, but for extra security i've done pretty much what The_Tailgunner has done so if the ring does fail me, the camera won't fall to the floor! So my diy r-strap cost a total of £8! :)

yeah, i replaced the d ring with a keyring (i did terrible things to it with pliars). the screw/plate will be more than strong enough, and replacing the d ring has gotten rid of the weak link.

I also added a safety strap for peace of mind

i deffo wouldnt trust a boggo d ring either. they only stick into the holes on the screw head by a couple of mm...definitely not a safe option
