Hello all,

Just a quick thought...if I'm going to store my camera for a period of time, say for example a month, would my batteries (nimh's) lose less charge if I took them out of the camera first?

My camera went long periods without use during the winter due to the naff weather and when I did go to use it the batteries were dead.

Or is it generally a good idea to remove the batteries anyway, even if it's only put away for a few days or a week?

Thanks in advance

If you leave the camera without any batteries then it will lose all settings inc date time etc. The camera will draw some charge even when switched off.

Normal nimh batteries lose charge quite quickly even when not in use. The new type, hybrio, eneloop etc keep charge for longer eg still hold 80% after a year. I have 2 sets of hybrios for my 6500, one in camera and one set in bag. Because they hold charge so well I know I always have at least one set fully charged. I used to use ordinary nimh for my e550 but often would find that when the in camera batteries died I would load in my spares to find they had lost virtually all their charge in the bag.

not striclty true as Digital cameras usually have a 2nd battery to maintain the date/time and other settings otherwise you will be resetting everything at every battery change.

i tend to leave the batteries out if i know its not going ot be in use for a long period of time! Nimh batteries loose their charge regardless wether in a electronic circuit or not.

Only for about 6 hours according to the 6500 manual. I think the op was talking about leaving his camera for longer than that.
