Hi folks,

Going on honeymoon later this year and a relative has strongly suggested I get a decent digital camera put on the wedding list :D I've no idea of price but I'd rather keep it as low as possible if it can do these:

1. Best picture quality/price
2. Remote for taking pictures - will be us two in some remote locations so it'd be nice to be able to take them with both of us in them withou using a timer :)
3. Macro mode that works pretty well - always been facinated by macro photos!

Any suggestions? I realise the remote might have to be an addon and could do without it. I know it's a hard spec when I don't even know about price! So even a best bet - even if it's outlandish would be appreciated :)

to be honest you can pick up remotes for £10-15 and I would suggest a gorillapod. they are really small with flexible legs but its great for quickly setting up for use with the remote without having to put your camera on the floor.

Used mine on holiday after wrapping it around a tree branch :)

I can only suggest a Nikon D60 with kit lense (£350), however, it depends if you want an DSLR or a point and shoot camera?

Not sure a DSLR would be clever as it'd probably end up in a suitcase so space would be limited :) I'd prefer one, but doubt it'd be practice!

Damn you have me thinking now, DSLR could take much, much better photos if we had one with us. Might look on MM for one over the next couple of months and get my relative to get something less expensive :)

What about a Canon G10 - a top of the range compact, or even the G9 if the budget is tight

Its close to an SLR in quality terms, but is SO much smaller, perfect for taking on holiday

There are also shutter releases around for the G10 [The RS60-E3], or theres always the self timer

In a similar vein theres Nikons rival the P6000, which uses the remote trigger ML-L3

As AHarvey says - a Gorillapod might be a good idea too

Cheers folks, will have a look into those :) Tempted to buy in the US when we arrive to be honest.

could work in your favour, but the way the £:$ is at the moment, and the fact you'll have US plugs on the chargers (and potentially limited warranty) means for me, i'd buy WELL in advance and practise with it.

I have a Canon G9 and recommend it. Smaller than an SLR, but with plenty manual controls and capable of taking nice pics.

Also have a gorillapod and it comes in very handy.
